Looking for chopping-board oil

I believe good ol' mineral oil is the oil of choice. As for me, if
someone used a nut oil (like walnut oil, which I hear is popular), I'd
be in the hospital because of my allergy. Plus, nut oils will get
rancid, if the board is not cleaned/stripped religiously.

Use plain mineral oil, available in your local drugstore.

As others have said, use mineral oil. It can also be used to season wooden
salad bowls.

I'm guessing SA might be South America, or Southern Antarctica, or some
other place where the local stores aren't well stocked? Have you asked
the neighbors? For that matter, does your climate require the board be
oiled? One of my boards -- butcher block type -- hasn't been oiled in
more than 10 years and doesn't seem to be any the worse for it. -aem

I've always used regular salad oil. Never had a problem with rancidity.

time , IMO but do as you please. Mine are still holding up after many years

Do you have IKEA there?
They sell oil for their chopping boards. It's right next to the chopping
boards, in fact. I noticed it the other day when I was there.
At least they had it at the one in New Haven, CT.

I'm pretty sure their stores are the same, all over the world.

Some research is likely to indicate that atleast half the population may
not even have heard of IKEA!

Just over a decade ago, when many of my colleagues were familiar with
IKEA, most of us state-side did not know of it. So how can can we assume
that IKEA is present all over the world?

Sorry, no IKEA here in South Africa. DH says they do have IKEA in
Europe, but that don't help me too much. We have a collegue over there
at the moment, maybe we can ask him to check and bring some back....

(drug-stores) for "mineral oil". We have tried "salad oil" but it tends
to go rancid. Yuk. And because of the climate here, the boards do dry
out if not treated.

Will have to take some decent pix... the only ones I have are when it
collapsed under a huge bunch of hail-stones... damaged my darn car too.
We have fixed it now, of course (the contraption, I mean) so I will pull
out the old camera tomorrow...

If salad oil goes rancid, you will have the same trouble with nut oils,
only more so. Stick to mineral oil.

If salad oil goes rancid, you will have the same trouble with nut oils,
only more so. Stick to mineral oil.

Long ago I switched to treating all my wooden kitchen accoutrements
with an occasional coating of beeswax... I find the seal it creates
holds up longer than oils and is self healing, kind of like galvanized
wood.

you melt it first and brush it on?
