My idiot in-laws are on this new diet kick. The one by
Adamo(sp??() about the diet being limited by your blood
type. I know that the diet is pure bunk, and am looking for
some information that I can use to convince them of this.

One of the things I am looking for is the different types of
blood typing systems. I know there is ABO, Rh, Kell. But
what are the others, and what are the ratios of the various
sub-groups? (For example, from what i have seen, in the ABO
    system, there is 43%A, 39%O, 13%B and 5%AB; Rh is 83% (+)ve
    and 17% (-)ve; Kell is 91% (-)ve and 9 % (+)ve).

Any other sites that have scientific evidence that this diet
is bunk would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

There are hundreds of types (200-500). Very few are used
clinically. The Rh subtypes are many and not limited to only
D (Rhpos or Rhneg). The antibodies formed against some of
these blood groups are naturally occuring. The ABO
antibodies are formed in response to normal bacteria present
    and usually not foods. (For

It is pointless to try and convince those people about
anything. You have it reversed. It is up to them to prove
that ABO diet is a valid diet. Blood group associations with
disease is interesting but it does not correlate so much
with blood groups as it does with tissue antigens in general
and not just blood antigens. RBC antigens and tissue
antigens are one and the same usually.

because you do not understand it.

The blood type diet is the best thing I have ever done and I
would recommend it to anybody with health problems.

My wife Blood type A felt no better after a few months of it
and no worse. I, however, and many others, have rid
themselves of arthritis, aches and pains, constant diarrhea
and constipation, chronic food and chemical allergies,
cholesterol, high blood pressure problems and a mass of
    other health afflictions.

For Pete's sake, you don't even know the basic blood types
so how could you in your total ignorance have any clue
what is good for them and what isn't. But then I am
beating my head against the wall here because the attitude
you came in with is the attitude you will go out with
until you become tired of being deathly sick constantly. I
hope you are blessed with good health and this never
    becomes an issue for you.

If your parents are seeking "strange" eating habits it is
more than likely they suffer from health problems and are
looking for a cure and the Blood Type diet may be the answer
for them or even one of them.

How much money are they paying out for this diet?....none?

How much extra is the food costing?...none?

Is there foods you will not enjoy mom making for you

Give it up. It sounds like you are a only chasing their
money and want a speedy death for them....LOL

I do understand it. Dr. Adamo thinks that based on your ABO
blood type, you should have a specific diet. Unfortunately,
there is no evidence to support this.

Not really. They asked for my scientific opinion of this
diet. So I am looking for scientific evidence that this diet
is good or bad. So far, all I have found in support of this
is personal stories. The scientific evidence is *strongly*
on the side that this diet is not supported in any way,
    shape or form.

You know, I need to apologize if the tone of my previous
message was a bit harsh. If so, it was not meant to be. You
(and others) believe that the diet works for you. That is
great for you. If it works for you, go for it. However, I
don't believe that it works. This has only been around for
a few years, and there is *no* body of scientific evidence
supporting it. Before I could say that *I* would follow
this diet, I would need to understand it. The reasoning
that he has put out is, to me, shaky at best and, in some
    cases, wrong.

Is it possible that he has come up with a brand new way of
eating that will revolutionize the health of humans??
possibly, but it is incumbent on him to provide peer-
reviewed scientific evidence supporting his diet.

Again, youbelieve that it works. i can live with that. Can
you live with the fact that I don't?

So it does work!! What more proof do you need?

Only in your case you got the opposite of what would be

Most likely you won't be able to convince them, but if the
diet is reasonably healthy, and it doesn't take much to be
healthier than the average North American diet, you might as
well let them get on with it. Just cutting out the
overprocessed high-fat and high-sugar junk food can do a lot
    to improve the average diet.

As other people have pointed out, there are many more

ethnic origin. Rh- is almost entirely absent in populations

I suspect that your in-laws will not be able to or
interested in evaluating the scientific evidence or lack
thereof. It's like trying to get them to change their
politics or religion: futile and acrimonious. And even if
the system makes no sense scientifically, the diet may
still be better than what they would eat otherwise.
Eventually they will get tired of it and drift back to the
    status quo ante.

  12. "Scientific Evidence" based on what?

If you read up on the subject you will find their cause
effects test described in detail. Where is the "scientific
evidence" that this is Usenet? Show me some. Sometimes the
evidence is thousands, probably tens of thousands of
testimonials from people trying it. Ever heard the term "double-
blind study"? It is based on peoples (the subjects)
testimonials 99% of the time. When the test antidepressants
do you think they scientifically test their skin temperature
as an indicator? What machine would you hook them up to do
    your "scientific evidence"?

With so much of your so-called "scientific evidence" being
scientifically disproved everyday, what the hell does it
mean? The end result is the people's testimonials. Only a
few years ago "Scientific evidence" could prove it was
impossible for a honey bee to fly.

If I saw a dietician or a doctor they would tell me to eat
more grains and fiber. meanwhile half the osteoporosis
victims are that way because of a gluten intolerance. Tell
them they need to eat more grains when it almost destroyed
them and probably has destroyed half their digestive
system over the years. tell the arthritics to eat
grains...but they need them because the nutritionalists
tell them it is good for them. Believe me us celiacs do
much better without grains. Blood type O people cannot
    typically tolerate grains.

Similar to this is the Asian people that cannot tolerate
lactose. They all just "happen" to have the same blood type
but it's all just [censored] and "scientifically unfounded".

Things are only "scientifically unfounded" when you want
them to be for some other agenda.

For cripes sakes "atomic theory" is "scientifically
unfounded". Nobody can prove things are made of atoms.
Nobody has ever seen one. All theory.

I don't believe that it works. This has only been around

    "Scientific Evidence" based on what?

How about scientific tests or studies in a controlled
environment. Where the intake of food is monitored and
controlled. All extraneous effects are eliminated and
effects on the body can be directly related to the food they
    are eating.

    Quoted message said:

If you read up on the subject you will find their cause
effects test described in detail. Where is the "scientific
evidence" that this is Usenet? Show me some. Sometimes the
evidence is thousands, probably tens of thousands of
testimonials from people trying it. Ever heard the term
"double-blind study"? It is based on peoples (the
subjects) testimonials 99% of the time. When the test
antidepressants do you think they scientifically test
their skin temperature as an indicator? What machine would
you hook them up to do your "scientific evidence"?

Ummm. Nice try, but still wrong. In a double-blind study,
again, everything is carefully controlled. For a study to be
a double-blind study, neither the participants or the
doctors prescribing the medicine know whether they are
getting the medication or a placebo. For something like a
diet, this cannot be done, unless you plan on putting all
the food in a blender and making them drink a mystery shake
    three times a day.

    Quoted message said:

With so much of your so-called "scientific evidence" being
scientifically disproved everyday, what the hell does it
mean? The end result is the people's testimonials. Only a
few years ago "Scientific evidence" could prove it was
impossible for a honey bee to fly.

The thing with the way science works, is that when someone
comes out with a new theory, people look for independant
confirmation that it works. They also look for evidence that
it doesn't work. It is up to the person(s) giving the new
theory to give reason's why it works. The more radical the
theory, the more evidence is required.

    Quoted message said:

If I saw a dietician or a doctor they would tell me to eat
more grains and fiber. meanwhile half the osteoporosis
victims are that way because of a gluten intolerance. Tell
them they need to eat more grains when it almost destroyed
them and probably has destroyed half their digestive
system over the years. tell the arthritics to eat
grains...but they need them because the nutritionalists
tell them it is good for them. Believe me us celiacs do
much better without grains. Blood type O people cannot
    typically tolerate grains.

Gee. And here most Drs and MDs think that osteoperosis
is due to a lack of calcium in the bones. Don't try to
mix people with a bone disease with people who have an
intolerance for glutens. What about people who,
according to this diet, should eat grains yet are also
    allergic to gluten?

    Quoted message said:

Similar to this is the Asian people that cannot tolerate
lactose. They all just "happen" to have the same blood

    unfounded".

Ummm. The inability to tolerate lactose has nothing to
do with what type of blood you have. It has to do with
the fact that the body doesn't produce an enzyme that
    digests lactose.

    Quoted message said:

Things are only "scientifically unfounded" when you want
them to be for some other agenda.

No. I *never* said scientifically unfounded, those are your
words. I said I am looking for evidence that the diet is
    good or bad.

    Quoted message said:

For cripes sakes "atomic theory" is "scientifically
unfounded". Nobody can prove things are made of atoms.
Nobody has ever seen one. All theory.

Bzzzzzt!! Wrong. They have. They have manipulated them. They
have photographed them. IBM has even moved the atoms on a
surface to spell IBM to show that they could.

    Quoted message said:

OK. How about some the "clotting" of red blood cells that he
says is caused by eating the wrong food groups is
irreversible and would rapidly clog the capillaries in the
body. This would result in the death of places where the
capillaries are the smallest. Ends of fingers, toes, nose
and ears. Last I checked, most people still have all their
    extremities.

    Thanks for playing.

  19. Your words:

"Any other sites that have scientific evidence that this
diet is bunk would be greatly appreciated"

"I said I am looking for evidence that the diet is
    good or bad."

You have your answer already. Do you need somebody to hold
your hand or do you like the argue only? You wouldn't listen
to anybody that didn;t agree with you. Lost cause. I hope
you find what you are looking for.

    "Scientific Evidence" based on what?

How about scientific tests or studies in a controlled
environment. Where the intake of food is monitored and
controlled. All extraneous effects are eliminated and
effects on the body can be directly related to the food
    they are eating.

If you read up on the subject you will find their cause

Show me some. Sometimes the evidence is thousands,
probably tens of thousands of testimonials from people
trying it. Ever heard the term "double-blind study"? It
is based on peoples (the subjects) testimonials

them up to do your "scientific evidence"?

Ummm. Nice try, but still wrong. In a double-blind study,
again, everything is carefully controlled. For a study to
be a double-blind study, neither the participants or the
doctors prescribing the medicine know whether they are
getting the medication or a placebo. For something like a
diet, this cannot be done, unless you plan on putting all
the food in a blender and making them drink a mystery
    shake three times a day.

disproved everyday, what the hell does it mean? The end
result is the people's testimonials. Only a few years
ago "Scientific evidence" could prove it was impossible
for a honey bee to fly.

The thing with the way science works, is that when someone
comes out with a new theory, people look for independant
confirmation that it works. They also look for evidence
that it doesn't work. It is up to the person(s) giving the
new theory to give reason's why it works. The more radical
the theory, the more evidence is required.

Gee. And here most Drs and MDs think that osteoperosis
is due to a lack of calcium in the bones. Don't try to
mix people with a bone disease with people who have an
intolerance for glutens. What about people who,
according to this diet, should eat grains yet are also
    allergic to gluten?

Ummm. The inability to tolerate lactose has nothing to do
with what type of blood you have. It has to do with the
fact that the body doesn't produce an enzyme that digests
    lactose.

OK. How about some the "clotting" of red blood cells that
he says is caused by eating the wrong food groups is
irreversible and would rapidly clog the capillaries in the
body. This would result in the death of places where the
capillaries are the smallest. Ends of fingers, toes, nose
and ears. Last I checked, most people still have all their
    extremities.

    Thanks for playing.
