Look Keo vs Old style

Joel,

A cheaper compromise might be to try the red and white bi-material
cleats in your old style pedals if you have not done so. I don't have
creaking problems with them, but I did with the earlier plain red ones.
If you prefer no float they are also available in black and white.

I started using the read and white cleats a while ago and it made no
difference.
I have the creaking problem even on two different sets of pedals,
cleats and shoes.

If you decide to go the Keo route then compare the price of Keo Classic
pedals on special for only another day or two at Probikekit in UK. I am
not sure what the best price is in USA but that sale price looks pretty
good.

I have purchased lots of stuff from Probikekit and had it shipped to
Australia and the landed cost is cheaper than I can buy it from the
local bike shop by a huge margin. They are also very quick. (think order
online Friday in Australia and it is delivered by post the following
Thursday)
The 'special' price started last Friday (I think) so if it is for one
week only you will need to be quick.

Hmm. As a test, try putting a bit of grease at the front of the pedal
where it contacts the cleat. That always was a temporary cure for
squeaking for me. If that doesn't work, the squeak may be coming from
your shoe.

I finally switched to SPD pedals and T092 shoes, and couldn't be
happier. No squeaks, and easy walking.

Remember the cleats are different so you will have to switch all the
pedals, get all Keos. Just lighter is all, no real improvement over
the 'standard' ones. maybe a bit less creak. Armor-All or Pledge on
the cleats before a ride.

Well I can get a pair of old style Looks brand new for around $65.
Three pairs of Keo's is going to run me around $250.
The smaller Keo cleats seem like they will be more prone to wear out
and breaking.

I am also considering Shimano Ultegra SPD-SL.
Any comments on these?

Silicone spray always works for me, and it lasts a long time. Creaking
can be caused between the cleat and the shoe too, so be sure to spray in
there too.

Yeah, I got that e-mail, too, and it looks like free shipping (to the USA at
least) is back. (They tried a flat $10 thing briefly, I think, and got me
on a recent tire purchase.)

Since the OP has three bikes, it seems a little expensive to "upgrade" them
all just because of squeaks. (I use 3-4 pairs of shoes, so even cleats get
pricey if I were to change pedal systems.)

I use two sets of discontinued Performance Look-style pedals ("Mag-Ti"
model -- pretty light). I had to go thru MANY pairs to finally get two that
didn't develop bearing play; these have been rock-solid for years now. (I
use genuine Look red/white cleats.)

Eventually I may try the Keo or another system altogether, but as long as
these work I'm leaving 'em alone.

If I had any squeaks I'd try a little Tri-Flow on rubbing surfaces.
