Well spotted (especially the front brake). When I see the
muscles of Jan in those pictures - this really looks
unhealtily skin.
To paraphrase Swiss commentator Jean Claude LeClerq (former
French champion). In stage 7 Ben Day and Erwin Thijs were
leading. Jean-Claude made slightly fun of them: "If you look
at the legs - the legs of anybody who wants to win such a
stage should look different [They are too fat]. They must
train harder".
"While I was in the area for interviews after last stage,
I saw Jan Ullrich changing jerseys. For all those, who
think, that he has much overweight [obviously referring to
Riis comments] - I can assure you - there is not much fat
on his body"

Sorry for the second answer to the same post.
This also reminds me to Pulnikov (sp?). Can you remember
him? He showed really big talent - then changed to Telekom,
and we did not see much of him anymore (This seems to be
typical of riders changing to Telekom). In one time trial of
the TdS he started with only one brake (I forgot if it was
front or back). This also resulted in some discussion,
whether this would be allowed or not.

tt riders have done that for years... I doubt it makes much
of a difference though. Be carful making sharp turns as the
brake can jam under the down tube.

If that's Ullrich, I'm going on a schnitzel diet. The front
brake looks to be one of the old Dura Ace AT centerpulls.
Where do they get those?

Looking at the other pics he's also the only one not using a
disc rear.

Yeah, he's a real tub of lard. His UCI legal aero helmet
looks pretty good, too. I wonder what the front brake is
- it doesn't really look like a dual pivot. Maybe Jeff
Jones can do a "Bikes of TdS" and let us know (hint..).

I cannot imagine how they could mount a centrepull BEHIND
the fork. Even if it had an inegrated hanger, it would not
fit under the down tube. I think it is a side-pull and
probably just a standard dual pivot one at that.

It could be one that's been modified to take the cable wrong
way around
- housing from the bottom. Or maybe a set of the old Magura
HS66 hydraulics.

It is Tektro dual pivot designed to pull from the side. I
just built Jason McCartney's on Monday for the TT That is
what Gaint sent with it. It worked quit well for a
cheaper brake.

Hey, thanks for the info. I guess we should have looked
closer at this:

Doesn't matter.
If he gets dropped by Jeker, how do you think he'll fare in
the Tour ?

We'll win. He's not peaking for mid-June.
Bob Schwartz [email hidden]
Hmmmm...ArmSTONG lost two minutes to Mayo....how do you
think HE will fare in the tour....
Why is it any different for Ullrich? When one-nut losses
time, it's ok, but when Ullrich loses 20 seconds, he's going
to lose the tour? Come on...do you really hear
yourself..that's not even rational thinking...
Unless you were being sarcastic...

I wonder what the stuff if about Lance and Jan. Clearly they
are putting out almost identical power. And, according to
Bob Roll, Lance is actually heavier than Jan.
Jan seems to generate a little more power and Lance seems
able to be slightly more aerodynamic. Jan seems able to
climb slightly faster than Lance in steady state but cannot
accelerate or hold burst power anywhere like Lance.
The way I see it, although Jan has a slight power advantage,
Lance knows how to use his own advantages to beat Jan. The
unfortunate thing about this is that there's precious little
Jan can do about it. Lance only needs to sit on Jan's wheel
and sprint ahead of him at each mountain top finish. Lance
can either match or beat Jan in a flat TT and probably equal
him in a rolling TT.
L'Alpe d'Huez will go to Lance ahead of Jan.
I think that the real racing is going to be from the lesser
lights and that if Jan and Lance play too much cat and mouse
someone like Tyler is going to walk off with the prize.
