Look Cleat Squeak

I have taken to using paint on the cleat in the back groove and this works for about a week, then I
paint again. I am using the black cleats that don't rotate, this might not work on the red ones.

it happens with all brand shoes. I changed pedals. Also got tired of the vertical play that develops
when the cleat wears a bit...

It does happen with all brands of shoes, but I've heard (literally) more complaints from Sidi shoe
owners than anyone else. With most brands of shoes, some ArmorAll or similar product does the trick
for a significant period of time. I have a friend who this season dumped his Sidis for Carnac and
has had a quiet ride ever since.

SPD-SL pedals are the final solution for LOOK squeak.

Not only do they not make a sound, they're easier to get in, the cleats don't wear out from walking,
stack height is lower, and they're lighter.

Spray a little water on them when this happens. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Thanks for all the comments. My shoes are Shimano with carbon sole, but the noise comes from the
contact between front of cleat and pedal. I'll try the "lather" method, and find out what ArmorAll
is. If they don't work then it looks like new pedals...

One last bit on Look cleat squeak. I've found that the GREY cleats don't seem to squeek - the
plastic seems to be a bit softer. I've bought several pairs of these mailorder from the UK. These
are Grey versions of the Red cleats, not the Black fixed ones. Cheaper than new pedals.

Mine are the Greys :o)

If you applied the lube after the cleat was mounted on the shoe, maybe the squeak is coming between
the sole of the shoe and the cleat and the lube wasn't getting to this interface.

Remove the cleat and spray the mounting area of the sole of the shoe with silicon spray, and spray
the whole cleat. Then remout and see if it still squeaks.
