Just like you have to "break in" shoes and stuff, I've found I have to "break in" my, er, undercarriage at the beginning of every season.

    It is unfun.

  5. It could be that you're just not used to that distance and overworked yourself. The general guidelines are that you shouldn't increase your long ride by more than 10% a week.

  6. You need butt muscles. 😄

hahahaha oh Butt muscles? Thats rich. I wonder if you can work out your buttmuscles. That would be wierd

I always used to experience some seatbone soreness after long rides, but the more I would ride I'd usually get over the soreness very quickly.

I'd just see how quickly you recover and when you do that long ride again you can compare and see if you do better.

  9. It is, of course, possible that you might benefit from a different saddle. No pain if you buy and try a Brooks from wallbike; they accept returns within 6 months of purchase.

just use pedals straps as have knee problem need flexibility in my feet this saddle is oridgional on the cube aeiral have it for six months now ,have pretty good riding shorts that are comfortable so maybe i should try new saddle there is no centre cut out on current one this may make a difference ..is it possible to ride 75 plus without disscomfort anyway?

I agree with Chavez that your pain is due to not being used to the saddle yet. I have had rides that were shorter than 75 that were ended early due to butt pain early in the season, and then rode centuries later on the same bike with the same saddle and pedals. I would give it a few more weeks, and then if the pain has not either disappeared or subsided, then I would consider a new saddle. You might also try adjusting your saddle a little further forward or getting a stem that is a little shorter. I was trying out a new bike this weekend that had a longer than what I needed stem and I kept finding myself moving forward on the saddle so that my sit bones were hanging over the side of the saddle rather than on the saddle.

  13. Got it... here was my solution.
Carry a small bottle of baby powder w/you. At 30 miles stop and throw some down on your chamio. Your butt is not sore rather the moister creates the RUBBB that will start getting really uncomfortable after 3-4 hours in the saddle. Trust me .. This will cool everything down and give some temporary relief for the remainder of your ride. I do 75's 3 times a week and if I fail to do this, I'm always very sore coming home.

I was answering Major94's question/statement about whether it's possible to train your butt muscles. Of course it is. When you ride with clips, the bottom of your stroke becomes kind of like a leg curl.

Hod, I'm not sure I understand. Are you experiencing a skin chaffing issue or are you experiencing seat bones bruising issue?

Adjusting your saddle and using baby powder are treating two different things...

  17. I have experience with saddle soreness in the past when i would ride over 100kms. Wearing 2 pairs of cycling shorts would help, as would rubbing a bit of petroleum jelly on the seams of my shorts, the seams of the chamois part.

They say it takes 2 to 3 weeks for a saddle to "break in", if its not comfortable after 3 weeks, change it.

I have a very comfortable saddle on my mtb now, its a wtb, rocket V i think.

It's fairly easy to ride long distances (ie over 75miles) with no discomfort at all.

Just as important as having a saddle that fits is having the saddle positioned correctly. I used to use a San Marco Regal years ago, which has no cut outs, and that was really comfortable. Wanting something a little lighter I sat on a Specialized butt-o-meter to get the 'sit bones' measured and got a Specialized Toupe carbon/titanium thing with minimal padding and it's supremely comfy.

There's a huge difference between 'good' shorts and 'great' shorts.

I find that Pearl Izumi's high end shorts are amazing. Even after really long rides in the mountains I don't suffer from saddle woes.

Not sure who said that shoes need to be broken in... That may have been true up until the early 80's when leather soles and slotted cleats (that were nailed on) were all the rage - but I'm not really too sure how you "break in" a molded composite soled shoe with non-stretchable uppers. Buy shoes that fit...

  19. +1, or maybe better +3, on pearl izumi's better shorts. I'd been using their 3D neo something or other and had the wife buy me a second pair for xmas. Cooler winter wx I've been using some alternates, but in another week or two I'll be in the pearls until November

well what it feels like is a soreness just in the sit bone areas and tenderness now i did get wet so that may have contributed there was no bruising there ......
