That would be a rad race. First make them climb on a road bike, switch over to a CX for awhile, then
onto a XC bike for the rest of the climbing, and finally once at the top, hop onto a full blown DH
rig for the descent.

Actually I would think a DH rig would be faster going down - at least the road grip should be
better and they would have less vorries about brakes fading. Maybe even enable them to take a few
short cuts:-)

BTW: Anyone notice the team with the "Make my Cannondale legal" shirts? Apparently there is a bike
weight minimum of 6.8 kg and a few riders have had to mount extra weight to their bike to get them
to 6.8 kgs!

And I thought my 8.4 kg road bike was skimpy:-)

I believe the roadie would, easily. DHers go fast because they are fearless about throwing their
bodies at protruding rocks, roots, bushes and sticks. Roads aren't nearly as steep as DH courses and
are much smoother. Aerodynamics are the limiting factor on a road, and power overcomes it. Roadies
are generally stronger than mtb riders, and road racers are the strongest of the lot. (No diss meant
to mtb riders - I'm both - and once I started riding a road bike again I grew much stronger and was
turning my mtb gears over with relative ease.)

Good point. It is foolish to assume that roadies don't ride mountain bikes, even at competition
level, just like the assuming mountain bikers don't ride road bikes. Bikes is bikes, depending on
your situation, it is all good.
