Lochgoilhead to Ardgartan path question

Last summer I walked the route through Coilessan Glen, up to
the bealach and then onto Cnoc Coinnich. There were no signs
to suggest the route was closed then.

The path is part of the Cowal Way route which goes from
Ardgartan to Portavadie. When that was opened last year
there was no suggestion of any problem in that section, so I
can't imagine it could still be closed.

In any case, even if it is "officially" closed, the chances
of anyone happening to be working on it tomorrow would be
rather slim, so I can't imagine you having any problem,
apart from the muddy slog through the trees from
Lochgoilhead, Maybe that's what's been improved now though.

I take it you mean the Donich Water path and not one of the
other ones. They were working on a path outside the village
but they seem to have finished now. it looks as if it goes
up to meet the path that runs from beside the scout center
and up Donich Water and over to Ardgartan.

Ifrequently encouter closed routes.. At weekends nobody is
working so there should be no problems. The H&S rules
demand that the notices go up, but they are often amusing,
being uphill of the works, where their only audience is
going to be descending hillwalkers. As if they will go back
over the hill.

Passed a fair number of nanny signs on Saturday on Meall na
Frean. Noone working, no noise , and the gate locked, no
problem. Best obey them on weekdays though :-)

This won't be much help as I expect you will be en route
by now! It's possible today's weather might have made you
postpone though. These signs tend to be just to cover the
operators against damages claims and AFAIK they can not be
used to 'close' routes. I'm pretty sure that a real
closure has to go through the local council planning
procedure and the notices would be council ones. Came down
the Coilessan Glen portion of this route just over a year
ago (slight navigation error coming off The Brack!) and
saw no sign of work ongoing or of closure notices -
perhaps the work is on the Lochgoilhead end. There were
notices on the 'new' path on the lower part of The Cobbler
approach from Arrochar about the same time but we ignored
them and found no reason for them to be there.
Incidentally, the this new path was 'closed' again
recently until it could be built properly - they had used
materials which were too soft or stones that were too
small so it had turned into glutinous mud in several
places. It was still quite safe to walk but obviously the
FC were trying to cover themselves against someone
claiming that they got their boots and trousers muddy!

from Lochgoilhead to Stuckbeg, then follow path to Corran
Lochan (this seems to be the part that had been upgraded).
Then follow forest tracks to Ardgartan. The path was open
with no problems to report.

The section of the mountainbike route I walked, Lochgoilhead
to Stuckbeg on forest tracks, then path to Corran Lochan,
then more forest tracks to Ardgartan is open. But the route
might be closed to bikers elsewhere.
