Common sense tells me that at the price of a SID, Rock Shox would've included boots if they helped. Then again, common sense tells me that they might skip on a small feature like this if it helps their bottom line...

Any input?

I can't answer really your question althought I've felt that I'd like something like that when I carry my bike on the roofrack of my car. Seems that I could use something that would cover the fork a bit more though than the small ones you linked to.

I'd say, for a little cash, it's probably not a BAD idea. The stanchion IS vulnerable to rock chips, grime etc. The worse that surface is, the harder it is for your fork seals to stay alive. I don't use them (mostly a "clean" rider) but I don't think they'll hurt. If they're $10 or $20, it's cheap insurance. If you overhaul your fork regularly and are able to put seals in on your own, don't worry about it. Most motorcycles have stone guards on the stanchions to guard against rock chips. Course, they can go a bit faster so maybe it's a bigger issue there..
My MTB has a SID without any kind of boot over the stanchion tubes. Do I need a pair of boots?
No, you don't. They can cause more trouble by trapping water and grit against the stanchions. The seals and wipers are designed to sweep crud out of the way so it doesn't do any harm.
