Livestrong bands

Assuming this is not a troll, I'll tell you that as a cancer survivor
who rides bikes, I've had the bracelet on since the '04 TdF and f***
anybody who has negative opinions on the subject. Get cancer, get
treated, survive, get back on your bike and then tell me whether the
silly bracelet has any special meaning for you, or whether you rather
hate or are sick of yellow bracelets, all color bracelets, Lance,
Lance hype, Cheryl, EPO in '99, etc., etc., etc.

I've been wearing mine since June or so, in support of a friend who's
dying of cancer and another who lost a breast. Wearing the bracelet
really has nothing at all to do with Lance (a sentiment I'm sure he'd
echo).

No, but I watched the movie _Dodgeball_ last night and was inspired by
Lance's cameo aprearence to sit through the last 10 minutes of the
film!

Mine hasn't been off my wrist since the '04 tour. Actually I tell a
lie...I crashed last December and as I slid along the road my band got
forced so hard up my arm it snapped. I was more gutted about that than
the holes in my shorts, leggings, top and gillet; and the skin I lost
from my arms and leg! Determined to carry on with my original band I
used super glue to repair it which saw me through until last month when
it broke again.

I've now replaced it with a brand new one, and I have 2 spares for the
future. Wearing mine just gives me a good feeling. Back in '04 nobody
had them here in the UK, I put up with loads of remarks like "just come
back from the swimming pool" or "just been on an all inclusive
holiday".

Nowadays they are 'ten a penny' on the streets, but the Livestrong ones
are still special to me.

I wear my bracelet, starting 7/2004, to show support of my
Mother-in-law who died with cancer just over one year ago.
I also wear it to show support of the LiveStrong organization in its
support of children with cancer. So, can it still have meaning to me
just because I have never had cancer, yes.

I wear mine for mostly selfish reasons. When I feel down or annoyed
about something, e.g. my pager goes off in the middle of the night and I
have to handle something at work, or I'm stuck in traffic, or I lose a
tough match at a table tennis tournament, or whatever, the Livestrong
band reminds me that "well, at least I don't have testicular cancer that
spreads to my lungs and brain, bringing me to the brink of death".

It puts things in perspective and my situation doesn't seem all that bad
anymore.

No, but I have found near real time doppler radar on the web to help a
lot with avoiding rain.

I may be wrong but I always thought it was alt.bikes.technical.
