Went to the local supermarket on my hybrid before work today. Plenty of
Sheffield stands are about and it has a U lock on the down tube so
securing it was no problem. Came out after about 15 mins to find some
toerag had not only nicked my Sigma BC 1600 computer, but had pulled
the wire out of the head unit.
They had left the magnet and sensor, so it seems it was just vandalism.
A woman in the car park had seen the whole thing and apologised for not
stepping in. Blimey, she was about 70 and disabled, so no apology was
necessary! I was only glad that they had no done more damage like
nicking both the wheels.
I've ordered a new one, so now I'll have two head units (if I can
repair one), sensors and magnets. I might be able to fit one to my road
bike as well to replace the old Cateye one. I can then just swap the
heads over to make my annual mileage calculation easier. Oh dear -
that's a point. What was the mileage on the Sigma? I think it was
around 500 miles, so I'll have to add that to the new unit.
Might leave my road bike there next week and hide to see if I can lure
them out ;-)
