Having just had the plastercast removed from my arm (it's been there 7 weeks!), I'm desparate to get back onto my bike. Since the clocks have gone back and the dark nights have drawn in, lights are an obvious necessity.
I'm relatively new to cycling - last time I was "regularly" on my bike was about 20 years ago. Technology has obviously moved on, hence this post.
Therefore, do any of you have any recommendations for front lighting systems? My budget is around £100ish, my cycling tends to be on bridleways, canal paths and occasional trails.
At the moment, I'm considering offerings from Vista and Cateye, however I am open to suggestions.

There is this wonderful thing called Google, which indexes Usenet postings. It means that people do not have to waste their time typing the same things several times and those with a question can find out if it has been answered before. This subject has been discussed several times in the last month.

It's all been done before but try www.bikemagic.com there is a nice article about making your own super duper light set that easily outperform branded lights.

Yes but maybe people have more current experiences which they have not yet posted but may in reply to a promt. If everyone relied on google there would be no expressing of current opinions. Google = history. And people can decide for themselves whether they consider a reply a waste of time and act accordingly. Look at the time we've just wasted between us and still not given a useful reply :-)

I'm a big fan of the Busch and Mueller (spelling?) S6 dynamo or a Shimano Nexus dynamo hub built into your front wheel. Power when you need it at very low drag and you don't have to worry about batteries. The S6 is probably a less expensive route and will make plenty of power for a lighting system. I have one on my touring bike and love it. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I've spent the past two weeks attempting to research which would be the best lights for my requirements. A couple of days ago, I chanced upon this group and thought I would pop a in question here.
Prior to this, I didn't know this group even existed, nevermind searching through archives. But, some of your points have been noted and I will now dilligently search this group.
