I bought a set of front and rear blinking ("disco"😉 lights for about $20, red clipped onto my saddle bag and white for the front clipped onto a the handlebar. It allows me to be seen by traffic. Batteries (2 AAAs each) are supposedly good for 200 hours.
Disadvantage is I cannot see the road as well in the less well lighted areas, so road hazards are a bit of a concern.
I have been commuting for over 20 years, I use generators, the older ones I have are straight Union ones, the newer ones a mix of whater they put together (I recently got a replacement pedal for my Huffy marked "Made in Europe"😉. I prefer the styling of the older (circa 1980) Union headlamps thought the newer ones give a very good beam pattern. I have flashing lights, either red or amber on the backs of the racks, also wear reflective leg bands and a reflective vest with stripes that are about 4" wide. It is a civilian version of the ones made for police, firemen, school crossing guards, has no
print on it.
