Now that Daylight Savings is no more, I've been forced to do a good
percentage of my riding in the dark (after work). To prevent myself
from becoming a hood ornament, I've tried to come up with a setup that
makes me very conspicuous (w/o spending a fortune). My current system
is as follows:
REAR
Vistalite Super Nebula 5. This is mounted at the top of my RANS'
(Stratus) seat braces, centered between them. I run this in steady,
non-flashing mode.
CatEye TL-LD170 (two). These are mounted slightly below the Vistalite
(on each seat brace). Also run in non-flashing mode.
FRONT
NiteRider Trail Rat 2.0 (10W, NiMH). The NiteRider is currently mounted
to a backwards-facing Minoura Spacegrip, but will be moved to a
riser-mounted Cronometro "nob."
CatEye HL-EL400. I've got this attached to my (Calhoun Evo Sport)
handlebars, right next to the stem (hangs underneath). I switch this to
the flashing mode when there's a lot of auto traffic.
Most of my riding is in suburban areas, so my main concern was being
visible to autos, especially near streetlights. I'll be adding some
reflective tape to my helmet and the top portions of my rims.
Eventually I'd also like to replace the CatEye 170's with Vistalite's
Total Eclipse.
