  1. So I cooked my first batch last night...
Came home to find out the landlord and his fam went to their cabin for a week... I figured it was as good a time as any...
Took my lunch and ran to the local Brew store... and got a basic brewing set up... and a brewing kit to make an English style pale ale.
I went for something that was a bit on the lighter side and not too high in alcohol content for the first attempt.
I read instructions, re-read them a few times... placed everything in order, santized and made notes... everything was great until the wort got to boiling and I kiddingly said to Carla.. "Whew stinks eh?"
She spent the next half hour describing the aroma... urine, burning cigarettes, tea, bread...
"we" decided that if any more beer gets made I will be boiling the wort outside on the gas burner... I don't disagree because when we came home from taking the dog for a walk it smelled pretty strong in the apartment... I bit my tounge before I said "it smells like a brewery in here".
I followed all the instructions to a tee... made sure I kept everything sanaitary as possible... once the wort cooled I added the re-hydrated yeast and let the little beasts get busy making beer out of my wort...
Cross your fingers, hold your nose and pray for beer!!!!

I have never heard the cooking of wort described that way before. I and
my brewing buddy find it the opposite actually, its not plesant but
certainly not as bad as you described. lol

I love the bear. Personally I think it's got the right idea. I know
after a long ride in the woods I like a brew or two then take a nap in
    the shade. 🙂

I like this bit: "They set a trap using as bait some doughnuts, honey and two
cans of Rainier Beer. It worked, and the bear was captured for relocation."

Excellent! My worts are much less stinky than that. Is it possible that
some boiled over onto the burners? In any case, cooking outside on a gas
burner is a pretty good way to go. If it boils over a bit, you can call
it an offering to the beer gods.

Tell us how it turns out.

I asked him to cook it outside next time, who cares what the neighbours say,
at least the house won't stink.

May I suggest www.hbd.org as a great resource.

I outta introduce you to my friend's upstairs neighbor. I heard all this
noise one night; it sounded like they had a bowling alley in their
apartment. Come to find out the dude that lives upstairs is a hardcore
    beer drinker/home brewer.

He has this huge tank that he had custom fabricated with frig'n tubes
coming out of it and level indicators and [censored] taking up his living-room..
He's getting a patent on the damn thing and trying to start his own
    business... crazy!

I have been to both thanks for the links... At this point I am forcing myself to take a breather on reading... Getting on into information overload...
The first batch is fermenting and the lock is bubbling along... Of course it is all sealed up in a plastic food gerade bucket so I cannot see it... Now my only worry is if some sort of bacteria or off yeast is at it...
Not too sure if it's ok to pop the lid on the bucket to look.. I will probably not be able to help myself and have a look tonight...
    Next adventure bottling...

I've had many vitamin R's in my day. That bear sounds like Homer
    Simpson.
