If my memory serves me correctly...

I'd say 3, but more because it is chossy, slippy, polished and
eroded than technically difficult. You may also be trampled in
the crush as it is a popular route (IME)

I would certainly prefer it Green->Great than the other way round
as it is safer to ascend Great Gable.

Its more exposed than Lingmell to Scafell Pike, but not badly.
The descent to the col is a bit slippy underfoot and the start of
the ascent onto GG will require the odd steadying hand touching
rock, but *not* scrambling by any means. About the same level as
PYG IMHO.

Personally I would prefer Great > Green and on a good day I would rate
either way as easy.

2.5 - There is no great difficulty other than careful footing required on
the short rocky section on Great Gable. The path down from Green Gable to
Windy Gap is just loose scree and presents no difficulty. If you saw the
'crowds' (6 years up to 70 plus) going a along that route for the Great
Gable Remembrance Day Service, you would see it is fairly easy.

I would say its more like the Miners Track from the Llyn to the constructed
path section.

Take a look at my Lake District - 2003 Great Gable Service (poppy
alongside) picture 4 and 5 for an idea of the route down from Green Gable
and the route up Great Gable

I would say 1-easy. Did it last April with snow starting just above Windy
Gap. Light use of hands on some parts. A friend, with a certain degree of
high anxiety, had doubts about moving on to the top but after looking at
other walkers that passed him he thought :"What they can do I can do too".
He enjoyed himself very much and in June 2005 we'll be scrambling up Ill
Crag's SE corner and Jack's Rake.
