Four-year-old Paul Holmewood was thrown out of Cage Green Primary School four days after term started for being aggressive to other children and swearing at and threatening teachers. He was also said to disrupt lessons, put himself and his classmates at risk, climb over everything and tell staff he planned to run away. However, Paul suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and his mother Alison believes that by excluding him, he is being punished for being ill. She said staff were well aware of his condition before he started reception class and believes the decision to exclude him was taken too quickly. Miss Holmewood, of Audley Avenue, said: "Paul wasn't given a chance. The school was aware he needed constant attention or he would crave it in other ways." Paul has suffered with ADHD for about two years and is Miss Holmewood's second child to suffer with it. The 28-year-old said: "Paul is too young to be prescribed Ritalin but if I cope with two children who both suffer from ADHD I cannot see why paid professionals can't." According to a social services report Paul is a confident and bubbly boy but is said to turn quickly from being affectionate to aggressive and seeking attention negatively. It says he has adopted a swagger, his body language is similar to an arrogant teenager and he has little recognition of danger. When travelling in cars he will take off his seat belt, open windows and try to hang out. He also climbs out of the front window of his home to escape down the road Paul has been excluded for a fixed period and is allowed to attend school only three mornings a week. In the meantime Miss Holmewood feels he is missing out on his vital education. She added: "I want Paul to be statemented so he gets the support he needs. But I feel he should not have been excluded in the first place. Children like him will think that acting up in the classroom is a great way to stay off school." However, headteacher Sue Miller said Paul caused such disruption that there was no option other than to exclude him. But she said an additional learning support assistant had been employed for his class and she hoped to integrate Paul into school slowly, starting with three mornings per week. She added: "I am currently arranging a meeting to look at Paul's needs and make sure he gets the right support so he can settle into an educational environment." Number 1. Who diagnosed him at age two?? Apparently soneone who is knowledgeable about child psychology, as it seems from the article, they were right. Number 2. How much *loving* discipline did he get at home? Probably a lot. Most ADHD kids are subjected to more discipline than is good for them . Number 3. How much was he yelled at, at home?? Probably a lot, in th ebeginning, as parents do become frustrated when their child cannot engage is age appropriate behavior to the point where they are this disruptive. Now, what drug pusher Mark Probert doesn't know, is I had kids like that in my daycare. None of them were expelled. Good for you. That is NOT the general experience of the ADHD parents I know. This article shows exactly what has happened to many of the children. It happened to my son. Now, get ready for this Mark. I am always ready. My hubby worked night shift. He gave up his sleep, CAME TO THE CENTER, AND CARRIED THIS CHILD AROUND, giving him chance after chance to control himself, if he did NOT, my hubby picked him back up in his loving arms and carried him around some more. Wodnerful. I gave up a career working for the US government which I loved. I was doing something that made a major difference in the lives of my fellow Americans, even yours. I left federal service to be a "at home Dad" to my son. This was a decision that I made freely, and I consider it to be the second most important decision I made as a parent. You already know what the first one was. We then worked with the parents and found all the child heard at home was negative yelling. That happens. However, it is not the cause of ADHD. That happened more than once. Hate kids, I think not. My hubby displayed more love that you can even imagine. Wrong. I can imagine far more than that for two reasons: 1. I practice it. 2. I have seen it when someone sacrifices their life for someone else. There is no greater love than that. The child did NOT NEED TO BE DRUGGED. Perhaps that child did not need it. However, there are others who most definitely need it. I'm sure this is not the reply you expected, however it is the truth. And, my reply is the absolute truth. However, you will deny that. (Note that I did not deny yours.) I have NO respect for anyone who pushes DRUGS ON YOUNG CHILDREN!! I have no respect for anyone who denies real disorders and denies effective treatment for those disorders. (Who doe sthat sound like????) That would be YOU, in your quest to support organized medicine. I suppor tproper treatment.Show me an alternative one that is proper treatment and I will support it. Just as three years ago, you can call me a liar, now you see that the doctors freely admit that they do prescribe it, even though it is NOT to be given to kids under six. It is being tested for safety and efficacy for kids under six, and, so far, no problems. You see, the truth comes out sooner or later, and in all honesty, you owe me an apology for calling me a liar three years ago. but being the drug pusher you are, I won't expect it.
