  1. I made my cakes & I must 'thanks' those who sent tips!

I did a Chocolate cake & a Yellow cake. The Chocolate cake got Coffee
instead of water with a tsp of orange extract added and the yellow cake
got a strong orange juice mixture with a tsp of orange extract, and a
    little orange dye.

I'm making a "Nemo" cake, so I used a rectangular sheet pan and a
football cake pan in order to eventually make a fish shape with fins. I
poured some of each mix in layers in each pan & then took a wooden spoon
    to "swirl" it.

Since there is always that rounded top on most home-made cakes, I sliced
it off to taste-test it. It is totally yummy & doesn't even taste like
    It's from a box mix!

I have an easy frosting recipe that I have that I am going to use. Tt
turns out light, fluffy & not too sweet. It will be perfect for this cake!

Since the party is not till next Sunday, they are taking a ride in the
freezer till the day before the party. I can't wait to assemble &
    decorate it!!!

Please take a photo and post if you get a chance. I have a little Nemo
fan here, too, and would like to see how yours comes out!

Just a reminder in case Denise doesn't know... "post" doesn't mean
post here. Instead, use alt.binaries.food or a website, with a
    pointer posted here.

Cute! I was never "clever"... kids b'day parties were always
somewhere other than my house - Farrell's, The Jungle, bowling,
    miniature golf etc.

The plus was that someone else did the clean up.
    🙂

Curly, You don't remember me do you?

I've been posting here for at least 7 years, just not with much
regularity for the last few years. Having a toddler tends to take up
    alot of my time 🙂

Sorry, it was more of a panic response against the generic advice to
    "post" photos.

And I apologize for spelling "Denise~*" wrong ;>

Farrell's! I used to love that place when I was a kid....we used to go
to Farrells when I was visiting my Grandma & Grandpa in South Bend,
Indiana. We'd go with all the cousins and get a zoo. We had quite a few
birthday celebrations for my sister there. What a great memory!
Is Farrells a chain, r are you in South Bend?

Wow, Farrell's! That is a real blast from the past! It was all the
rage to have birthday parties there, and of course, to order The
Trough. This was in the late 60's-early 70's. I tip my hat to every
    parent who indulged a child with a Farrell's birthday party, I don't
think I would have the patience :-)

    Thanks for the memory.

Denise, it sounds adorable! Re the domed top of the cake, though, I've
found a really great, cheap way to avoid that-cut a strip of terrycloth (I
use an old ragged towel) to the width and diameter of the pan. Saturate it,
wring it out, and pin it to the outside of the cake pan. Perfectly level
    cakes!
