Let's hear it for Ace Hardware

We've got a True Value down the road that does something similar. I
just leave the bike leaning by the cash register. I'm not sure I could
get away with that at a big-box store.

Sometimes around here it takes awhile to find something that my ulock
will fit around. Today at Office Depot wasn't a problem, though, there
was a signpost in the parking lot with a big enough sign that my Soma
couldn't be pulled over it. Before I spotted that I almost just rode
right in through the automatic doors since there weren't many people around.

No bike rack at Ace, so I asked where I could put it, and they've got a nice
spot, inside, right next to customer service for bike parking. That makes
up for the lack of marked crossing on the 5 line arterial I've got to
navigate on the way over there.
The route is half dirt, even some on trail.

ps

REI lets me do that (even though they have an outdoor bike rack) and
bring my dog in too. Other than that it's no bikes allowed.

I use beaters to go shopping. Never use my prizes. And I don't stay
long. Even when I lived in Hartford 10 years I ago double chained it. I
know many that had their bikes ripped. So I most be doing something
right.

I just put the kickstand down and park it unlocked.
My only (townie) bike theft problem was from leaving it unlocked at a bar.

My solution for the bar issue is a $2 combo lock that makes it just
inconvenient enough to deter theft (so far). I figure there's usually an
easier target around if I do that.
