Lesanne's gonna win in two WEIGHS this week! (G)

Well, today was the Holiday bash at work and I ate too much dessert proving once again that I still
have a taste for IT and that only knowing the program and stubbornly sticking with it makes it kinda
work. I also kinda ate too much other so-so but tasty foods.

I also just put on nervously a lot more weight - well, computer weight. I just installed a 250gig
hard drive (actually, the computer shell is still open at my feet!!!). The first time I got some odd
message that just counted a lot of digits and said things were NOT RIGHT (not those exact words) and
to reboot. Of course, rebooting did nothing other than repeat that message.

Then I got a message about a missing FILE (I know it is a winxp file). Scary since it should have
been on my initial, original, still in place (but maybe not intact C: drive).

A few more reboots produced repeats (heading for the sugar and chocolate.... type events) of those
various messages.

Pulled out the new drive and prayed and rebooted. Ah, Winxp shows it lovely face.

New hardware detected.

And it works. I now have enough room for digital slides shows and movies up the wazu!!!!

But the bottom line is I think you get this week - conceded in advance
(G)

Too bad about losing to Lesanne this week Fred, but congrats on the new hard drive. DH is dying to
get one of the new 250G drives, but I won't let him.

Oh boy, I think I don't want to be around when my son installs his. <G> I bought him a 250gig hard
drive for Christmas - he is going to use it as an additional drive just for media. Sounds like he
will have an interesting time getting it up and running. We might be running to you for tips. lol

Maybe all that sweating over the installation worked off the excess you consumed earlier in
the day. <G>

Hey Fred, it isn't over until it's over, don't forget the enchilada saga I had a couple of days ago.
Still holding around 157 though. Despite. You never know.

Both CompUSA and Frys (I got it at Frys) had the maxtor for rebate and instore rebate for $150.00
US. I decided to spring for it.

Now I have enough room for slides with full clothes instead of briefs
(g)

I went pretty light on dinner tonight.

I gather that larger than 133gigs needs special treatment and this came with its own CARD. I
installed both the card and disk and rebooted. NO!!!!

You needed to add the card, reboot and let XP detect new hardware. Install the card's drivers. Then
add the hard drive to the setup. Perfect after that. So check out whatever first (G)

Good luck

Nice deal Fred! Circuit City had the Western Digital with $100 in rebates, was really the only
reason I bought into sonny boys whims.

Ah. Perhaps I shall manage to prevail this week. That will be very fun for
me. I am really really really feeling in the "just right" spot this week.
This is a very new and very welcome feeling. I have had a few holiday
treats (the enchilada thing is a very cold weather related phenomenon, we do
tamales around here too) but I have managed to be pretty good with portion
control and later in the day adjustments. We do our main thing at noon. I
have not had any tamales yet. That week you will no doubt be the "little"
winner, as opposed to the big winner :)

We're selling Western Digital 250G drives for about $280.00 CDN. We're too small so don't qualify
for the big chain reseller promotion stuff.

Ummmmmm, any chance that this was stated in included instructions??? I have a feeling I better print
all this out for my son - he is a typical *guy* ... things instructions are not necessary. <G>

Yes, this one had a $100 in store rebate and then 30 for mail in. We shall see - I'm suspicious when
they drop those prices that much. Discontinue or bad batch or ..... (g)

It really sounds like you have control and the knowledge and ability. That's terrific. And I really
can't kick myself too much just yet. I know what I'm doing and an occasionly overindulgence even if
I should know better and act better ain't the killer.

enchilada is a very cold weather thing, huh. Our definitions of cold weather need work (G)

Good luck this week and next.

I think I can take if it you pull ahead, er, behind this ONE time (G)

folks probably provide.

The drive came with a pci card that allows access to the larger drive.

It came with TWO instruction booklets. One suggests installing the card, attaching the hard drive
and its cables and reboot. NO!

The other booklet was better but not much clearer but does suggest installing the card. Rebooting,
allow xp to detect new hardware (the card), follow instructions for installing new driver for said
card. Reboot and then add the hard disk to the card. This did work.

What's with the enchilada's this week? Son and I visited his favorite mexican place the other day,
and I veered away from my usual talapia and veggies ... the spinach/mushroom enchiladas sounded
soooooooo incredibly good I couldn't resist (and they were good).
