Lemi-Shine follow-up

If I understand you correctly, the Lemi-Shine is not dissolving in
your dishwasher. Try dissolving the Lemi-Shine before adding it to
the dishwasher, perhaps let an amount of Lemi-Shine sit overnight (or
longer) in a jar of water, perhaps distilled water. If it doesn't
dissolve after a couple of days, pour off what has dissolved and use
that.

If I understand you correctly, the Lemi-Shine is not dissolving in
your dishwasher. Try dissolving the Lemi-Shine before adding it to
the dishwasher, perhaps let an amount of Lemi-Shine sit overnight (or

dissolve after a couple of days, pour off what has dissolved and use
that.

We use a water softener and for a reason too long to go into we were unable to
use soft water. Our glasses and dishes got hazy.

If you want to start "fresh" fill your sink 1/2 full of quite warm water. Add
1/2 that amount of white (any kind) vinegar. Let your glasses and dishes soak
for 15 minutes then sponge or wipe with a dish cloth the rinse and dry.

salt each month.)
Dimitri, I've started fresh with vinegar more times than I care to say.
(Tongue in cheek - The amount of dishes that I use and have the
streaks/haze/spots/yuk on them would take a gasoline tank truck to clean
off.) When I bought some new glasses a few weeks ago, they were 'fresh,' as
you say, and the second thru wash, they were on their way to being like the
others.

I think you need to check your water softener. This is a water problem not a
dishwasher problem. Do you have a test kit?

We don't have a dishwasher at the Minnesota house (from which I'm posting),
but we do have one at the new (to us) Colorado house. I've been using the
Cascade product that's prepackaged, hhmmm; any way, it's powder Cascade with
a bit of Dawn packaged with it. Everything comes out beautifully (town
water, no water softener). I have been told that if you do too much
rinse/prep work before putting the dishes in, that will contribute to
etching (cloudiness). So, of course, I do none! ;-)

BTW, I use nothing else, including Jet Dry, just the little packet doohickey
thingy.

Dee, for some reason I never got the fact that you have a water softener,
and that may have something to do with it. If the deposits in your
dishwasher tub, as well as all the tubes, pipes, and spray heads, are
really bad, this could account for crystaline deposits. Are you sure it is
crystals of the Lemi Shine?

I would have the water softener checked, as well as the dishwasher.

One thing about using the Lemi Shine itself... Some of the really worst
pieces I had required several washings with it before they became clear. I
never noticed any undissolved Lemi Shine on the dishes or in the tub.

Do you mean for the softness of the water? I don't think it needs to be any
softer than it is, really. When I visit my f-i-l, his water is harder than
mine (I take my own soap -- tee hee) and we use the same soap for the
dishwasher and washer.

Dishes are a teensy better, but one new unused glass has a film that you can
move around with your thumb/fingers, sort of like it is a soft white greasy
film. It could be that the lemi-shine softened the film and it is moveable
versus a hard film, to become a harder film later. Whatever, I believe
these dishes just aren't getting rinsed enough. I seem to have enough water
in the dishwasher, enough dishwasher soap, enough rinse water -- I've rinsed
them twice and get the same results - my water softener produces water that
is certainly softer than my f-i-l's dishwasher, using the same soap, and his
comes out ok. I think the only thing left is to go thru the full container
of Lemi-shine and if it doesn't do any kind of job for me - then go to the
CLR. After that, it's by hand!
Thanks for your keen interest. I'm going to take a photo of a spaghetti
strainer/fork this morning. If it shows the stains, I'll post it.

Everything I've read says a combination of soft water, very hot water &
detergent etches glasses and that can't be fixed. It's certainly something
I've experienced with dishwashers depending on the water condition where we
were living.

Maybe there is something wrong with your dishwasher, eg. the water
pressure or draining mechanism, etc.
