one hopes you broke it on the bike.

Nope! I broke it on 30th Dec. last year (day before my b/day), in a cave, in The Lakes

a cave in the lakes...? dove cave?

Warning: overnighting in caves in the Lakes can be bad for your health:

Well, being on a mountainside in adverse weather conditions while ill-prepared certainly can!

lots of industrial relics; the mining museum at threlkeld quarry is worth a visit for background
    info & advice.

Well, I hopped on the BASE for a few minutes Sat. and Sun, just tootling around out front of the
house and in the factory yard around the corner. Managed a couple small hops and a small jump or two
without too much pain, but I wasn't comfortable with pushing my luck off road for any distance.
Plus, I've been off the bike so much lately, my stamina is a fraction of what it was last year. Will
likely try and ride a few road miles next Sunday.

Soon as the light is good enough will start riding to and from work again - the traffic is to damned
crazy to risk when the light is bad, even with powerful lights on. Hell, it's enough of a risk in
broad daylight. Seems most of the commute drivers on this set of roads are just looking for an
    excuse to murder cyclists.
