The Swedish champion joins a wave of big-named new signings to the squad,
with Saunier Duval's David Millar, and Team CSC duo David Zabriskie and
Christian Vande Velde all being announced immediately after the Tour de
France finished. Yesterday New Zealand's Julian Dean announced he was
leaving his French ProTour team Crédit Agricole to join the squad for 2008.

"I believe that with riders such as myself, Millar, Zabriske and Vande Velde
joining guys like Danny Pate, we can make a significant impact on some major
races next year," added Backstedt. "From my own perspective I have a big
following in the USA and am really looking forward to getting stuck into
races such as the Tour of California and racing for an American team."

Backstedt is confident with the lineup the squad will enter 2008 with that
the outfit will be invited to both Roubaix and the Tour. The two events have
been singled out by Vaughters recently as key stepping stones in the path to
a ProTour licence in 2009.

So it sounds like Pate is staying ...

I'd like to see Danny ride Paris-Roubaix. He used to do a lot of cross
racing and is good at it.

Johnny Weltz has a history of working with younger not well known
riders - that was what he did with the unknown american riders at US
Postal until the arival of Armstrong and Brunell.

Johnny Weltz has a history of working with younger not well known
riders - that was what he did with the unknown american riders at US
Postal until the arival of Armstrong and Brunell.

Hm. I wonder if Vaughters had any clue that disco was coming apart
before he signed all those big names to slipstream? He might have
been able to get levi pretty cheap (assuming he'd want the old
fart) ...

also, hincapie is a tool if he goes to t-mobile. csc was his only
hope for rejuvenation.

But Tom they KNOW every rider is a guilty doping scumbag so it doesn't
matter how flimsy the "evidence" they use to support their
proclamations are. Who needs actual proof before trashing someone when
you've got suspicion and imagination?
