  1. Targetting something that has not been proven to be the cause
    of anything bad !
There is no proof that LDL is to be minimized !!!
    It's all govt ( tax $$ pushed propaganda ) .

Every drug patented today in the USA is a worse drug
that what it replaced ( for the profits of a corner on that mkt )
TYLENOL is far worse than morphine . It will take out
your liver far faster than Morphine .
Nothing clears the body faster than M' .
It s simply FDA and Drug companies allowed to corner the mkt with
a patent on a drug that has nothing good but is passed by FDA and
That fact allows the govt to make a law prohibiting the competition
which profits the drug companies evern more .
    It's a scam !
If drug companies did make a"cure" it would later destroy profits !
Think about it !! They need a drug that appears to or is said by FDA
    or
others to help a bit but not kill . If it kills or does not help ,
    they make money
dead men tell no stories .

Medicine is a paradox . If you are a good doctor , you work others
    out of a job
then yourself for the gene improvement !!
    It is not simple .
In a successful society , their are no doctors !! They all went to
poor countries to treat the ill . Rich people don't need doctors !!
    They aren't sick !! They're smart

  2. You don't get a disease from not eating fish oil .
And there is no silver bullet that comes in a Vit' bottle .
I fast to take the load of digestion off my body when i'm sick .
    i'm 61 , and NO i've not been doing fasting for 50 years .
But when i got upper ulcers in 2003 i fasted and they went away
in 1 day . I could eat anything in just 2 days !

Explanantion is i was overfilling my stomach so the acid came up
    too high .
Your body can make all the cholesterol it needs .
It can also make amino acids from table sugar and N' from Colon and
    other storage places .
You do not waste aminos .
Average ppl dump 10grams a day ? But ! It's for the over consumption
    !!
    I don't eat nor need aminos . I recycle 99.9% .
havent had meat in years .
But your mind is against you , it will tell you you feel better on
    meat .
Same [censored] when you try to fast for the first time ! It will
screw you up so you think fasting is hurting you . It will give you
headches by "expecting" food ( dumping acid and other to stomach )
    will not harm you !
But after you conquer the uncon' mind , the next fast is easy , only a
    fullnes
in the head . Your stomach does not feel anything at all ! It
    actually
fels normal !! If you want to burn off fat , you'll need to drop all
    sugar
    and energy to start the
GLUCONEOGENOLYSIS ( Glycerol ,aminos , lactate to glucose )

If a doctor told you to take something for illness , it probably is
    for his profit and
    not your health .
There is no easy way , you must STUDY YOURSELF !
And ignore all the new stuff like oxidants ..

I feel the disease doesnot spare the rich , infact
the rich are more prone to sickness .

You are too paranoid about medicine dude. That means you have no experience
    with it.

Nor does it spare the owners of pharm companies. They do just as anyone else
    with meds and doctors.

At 450 mg, twice per day, changing nothing else, my LDL decreased 70
pts., my HDL went from 58 (had dropped from 68) to 70.

My TGL, IIRC, was in the 120s, but should be lower now, with better bg
    control, diet, and metformin added.

    Susan

Great Susan , did you have any side effects ?
It is not available in walgreens and other drug chains ,
may be I need to try at vitamin stores .

    Regards ,
    Kam

There are no side effects, even in studies of end stage renal patients
or those with hepatitis. I buy it online from whoever is cheapest. Try
froogle.com to see who has it.

Pantethine is a specific form of vitamin B-5. Naturally, it is rather
expensive and is, thus, not recommended unless you are diabetic.

  9. Hi Susan

    Newbie here.

I am just starting to study nutrition, after sorting out some long
term health problems with a change in diet. So you can assume
    I do not know much.

    and I wouldn't take a
    statin on a dare.

    I wondered why?
My doctor wants me to take a statin but I am very recluctant, I have
read that they affect Q10 production and that Q10 is heart protective.
(I had a heart attack last year). I have also read about memory and
    cognative problems associated with statins.

It seems to me that the benefits of taking statins may be outweighed
by the risks. I have said (to the doctor) I will try other methods of
    reducing Cholesterol before taking statins.

I just have to come up with a plan.......

Incidently, where does all the aggression in this newsgroup come from?
Maybe it is something that some posters eat?

My doctor wants me to take a statin but I am very recluctant, I have

First off Q10 is expensive because it's produced in only one country and
that is Japan. The drug companies there manufacture it and sell it here. I
am glad you belief the drug company sponsored research that it helps the
heart. I am also glad the Q10 companies strongly believe that people should
take statins. They wrote a letter signed by the all the makers stating that
statins should not be withdrawn but supplemented with Q10.
Get it? If you don't take a statin then you won't take Q10 and so that is
    not good for business.

You had a confirmed heart attack and now you are asking about memory and
cognitive problems may be associated with statins.
The key word is may or may not. There is no clinical studies indicating any
    higher increase in those AEs.
There are difinte studies indicating that statins are beneficial for you. I
would be more concerned with geting another heart attack than thinking about
    possible cognitive effects.

Outweigh the risk? What risk? YOU ALREADY HAD A HEART ATTACK. You are lucky
you survived. Your cognitive abilities will be intact when you have your
    next one.
People take statins to avoid CAD.

    Quoted message said:

I just have to come up with a plan.......

Very few clinical studies indicating proven alternatives.
Fish oils have nothing to do with cholesterol. They increase it.
OTC's don't have large complete studies.

    Quoted message said:

Incidently, where does all the aggression in this newsgroup come from?

It comes from several people who insist that every who takes statins will be
    brain damaged.
They call everyone who doesn't agree with them as drug pushing pharm reps.

    Quoted message said:

    Richard

I like your attitude there Richard. don't worry about what you eat.
Your doing fine with one heart attack under your belt.

Very high potential for adverse reactions, untrustworthy studies all we
    have to support them.

Pretty much my feeling, the more I read the less happy I am, in the UK
there is talk of using statins for a wider range of conditions
including diabetes! That would be a lot of people.

    Quoted message said:

    mother was crippled by them;

I'm sorry to hear that :-(
Is that permanant or can she improve?

I'm not sure why doctors are so keen on statins I have read a lot
of negative stuff. Just finished "Lipitor, thief of memory" which was
    interesting.

There are too many dangerous drugs in regular use, the amount of
ritalin prescriptions for children is rising fast here.

    Quoted message said:

And I've had dramatic improvements in my lipids with a low carb diet and
completely safe and atoxic pantethine supplementation,

I will look into pantethine, TVM

Here are some abstracts you may want to share with your doctor:

Thanks, I have printed them out.

    Quoted message said:

Yes, you do. That means you have to do a lot of homework on your own,

I have started, including signing up for a three and a half year
    course in nutritional therapy.

evaluate the information and make decisions in partnership with a doctor
who welcomes you as a partner in your health care team.

My doctor is generally on my side and is happy to discuss any options
that I come up with. Although she thinks we get all the vitamins and
minerals we need if we eat well, I am not convinced by her argument.

The plan at the moments includes
    - study, study and study

    - Generally improving my diet and including heart protective
    nutrients

    - Looking into lowering Homocystiene levels, currently at 9.7

    - Really understanding cholesterol issues, not easy as there is so
much conflicting data. I am reading "fats that kill, fats that
heal" by Udo Erasmus. My fasting cholesterol is 5.1

    - Exercising more.

    regards
    Richard
