I was at Pitsford Res briefly yesterday - looked like a nice place. One of those days when the
nephews say lets go to the park and play football and I say what about this watery thing on the map?
Of course in all the years they've lived in Northampton my b-i-l had never even heard of it ....

What's the cycling like for a family group? My "I'm tired now..." niece will insist she
goes too. ;-)

Its about 6 to 7 miles all round the lake. Reasonable gritty surface with an ice cream van (normally
at w/e's) at the causeway car park to add to the 'entertainment' at the main 'honey pot'.

North shore is more open, south a bit more wooded. There are reasonable pubs in Boughton & Pitsford
though I'm not sure how family friendly.

You see lots of family groups cycling round -- with tag-alongs, child seats and trailers as well as
little people on little bikes.

Just before reading your first reply I searched Google on for Pitsford Reservoir and was rather
alarmed (from the family outing perspective) to read it is a recommended rendezvous for "Dogging"
..... had to look that up too ...

I've never seen any such activity (I had to read the local rag for an explanation -- nothing to do
with walkies!!) -- and I usually ride it early morning or late evening. I suspect its either an
urban myth or they go a bit further off into the woods for the 'consumation'.

On a nice w/e afternoon there are more families and children than at a Blue Peter event.

Don't let the kids near the water though. It has (or recently had) a blue green algal bloom that is
poisonous. And that is our drinking water :~(
