  1. I currently use a helmet I purchased in Kmart.

However, I would like to find a helmet that is more comfortable on longer rides.

Unfortunately to my surprise, I realised that I have a larger than normal head. All the helmets in bike shops dont fit my head, and it was embarassing as well!

Although I did try on a Giro E2, which fit but had the sizing 57-61 cm. Now I am confused, I measured my head, and it was 63cm ... I would have liked to purchase the E2, but at 200+ .... was more than what I am prepared to pay for a helmet at the moment.

Anyone have similar issues finding helmets for "larger than normal" heads? Anyone care to recommend a brand/model helmet which are wider? (cos my head is not really longish, more wide ....)

I had a similar problem (must be the extra "brain capacity" :p ) not so much a size problem but the shape, I found most of the helmets not wide enough at the back. The only one that I could find at the time was a Bell Swift size 59-62. Not the coolest looking helmet but hopefully it'll keep the grey matter safe if the worst happens

Geebs (having delusions of intellectual superiority)

  3. I had this same problem when the dog of the people I was staying with in portland ate my helmet. Seriously.

Anyway, all the bike shop's helmets were too small forme, except one with 'go-on sport' written on it. It's a pretty nice helmet for $60 (in a regional town) too.

    Rob,
I could fit into the Giro E2, the rest of the mets i just could not fit into ...
Although I saw on web that Met has a tesstagarossa (spelling?), which was made for large heads.

The Giro E2 had a nice fit, was light. But like I said before, I think my head has problems with the width of the helmet.
