Don't you get it? He will be first to leave as the lowest seed (as any red
lantern would be). He *will* be first to the top if he stays ahead of the
next man. He won't have the lowest time of the day. Give me a break.

A dangerous competition, requiring expert riding and timekeeping.
Erik doesn't want to try so hard he's HD before l'Alpe. I've heard
the Lanterne Rouge competition is actually pretty keen and riders keep
a sharp eye on each other.
