You left out this part of the quote: "I drank a lot."
The message of last year's tour was increase cadence.
This year it's drink more beer.

Dumbass,
He meant he drank a lot of water on the stage today, because of the
beer he drank the night before.
Sincerely,
Eric

That's an unconventional interpretation. When faced with ambiguity, the
default RBR response is to choose the most interesting interpretation
possible. When there is no ambiguity, we pretty much just make [censored] up.

So, this whole thing was to set up a beer endorsement contract.
That's where the big money will come from after retirement.
Great taste .... less filling.

Oh...
So how many beers did he drink, mister know-it-all?
Dehydration is classic hangover symptom.
I am looking forward to the research papers that show that beer
potentiates the fast twitch muscles.
We finally have a role model that is talking sense.

Seriously, Floyd Landis' secret was WATER. He literally swam back
into contention today.
And he kept it a secret. His problem yesterday was water and he knew
it when he was BSing the press about having a bad day from the start.
(Well, maybe he was not absolutely sure till his coach confirmed it.)
Don't believe a word he says.

I thought mennonites shun alcohol.

Good reply, but we all know you made that up.

The important thing is that the LiveDrunk (TM) philosophy is gaining
momentum.

Back when I raced I noticed a clear correlation between drinking a few
pints of ale Friday night and doing well on a Sunday race. Not a race
the next morning but the day after.

Mennonites also don't show their bare legs in public, or exert
themselves vigorously on Sundays.

I've noticed the same thing on long rides and tours. As long as you are
hydrated and don't overdo the alcohol it seems to improve your recovery and
not impede it.

Just going by biochemistry classes, alcohol should impede your
performance if anything.
It alters pyruvate/lactate metabolism leading to higher levels of
lactate.
I know that I feel worse if I have been drinking (but less so if I keep
very well hydrated). I also feel the lactate burn if I have a drink or
two the in the evening after a very hard ride.

Your problem is not biology, but technique - stopping at
one or two is ill-advised. A third and fourth will make the
lactate burn go away again.

Don't tell me you're wearing one of those LiveDrunk(tm) bracelets too ?

My understanding is that they shun hard alcohol. At least some
definitely drink beer. I've lived near three Mennonite groups over the
years and one late night problem is horses taking the inebriated cart
occupants home.

'Course. Drink three large Piraats Friday night, wake up Sunday
morning refreshed.
