Well depends who you ask. We know that he can climb with anyone when his form is on...If you recall the day when it was just basso, lance, kloden and landis. If floyd has that kind of form throughout the race then he could win, but there are a lot of mountains and if floyd were to win it would be a huge step up. Beltran is probably the real USPS threat especially after a great TT. I just think it will be hard for Landis to keep his form when there are so many other riders who have proven GC preformance: Heras, Nozal, Valverde, Cuengo, Hamilton, Evans.

Even if Landis has the legs, why would Postal ride for Landis? Landis is
leaving, Beltran is Spanish. Wouldn't it make sense for Postal to designate
Beltran the real team leader?
Am I correct that Beltran is staying at Postal/Discovery, too??

The problem here is that all of the postal guys are friends. Whoever is at
the fitness level is that days leader and I think that is a great way to do
it. Surely the best thing would have been to have Jose there and I think
that he would have had an almost easy Vuelta with his only real competition

The problem here is that all of the postal guys are friends. Whoever is at
the fitness level is that days leader and I think that is a great way to do
it. Surely the best thing would have been to have Jose there and I think
that he would have had an almost easy Vuelta with his only real competition

But *if* things continue to go as they have so far, at some point a decision
has to be made regarding who the team protects. And it would seem to me (IMHO)
that Bruyneel would choose to protect Tricky.

The mountain stages and ITTs )or even a breakaway) will select the leader.
It would be foolish to use any other artificial selection (team orders or
whatever). Bruyneel already stated as much (I think it was his quote I
read).

One more thing...now you know why it is so rare to have a TTT for a first
stage. There is almost always an ITT or prolog prior to any TTT in a stage
race. The Vuelta organizers have been trying for years now to figure out how
to be "special" (Remember the idea of starting the race in 2 fields of 15
teams each and then eliminating half of them after the initial stages? How
insane was that idea?)

Tyler is a great rider when he is all alone. He seems to be one of those
riders who always finds a way to be in the crash.

I think that Triki is really the one to protect in the long run. But I think
that they aren't really worried about winning the Vuelta this year and they
have certainly made the best advertising value for Postal and Beery Floor in
any case.

Landis looked so so today - he had to dig pretty deep to limit his losses but he showed he has the desire to win this.I think he will fight hard and be in the mix till the end - he showed he isnt bad at a mountain TT this year in the Alpe too.
But heras (with a very fresh looking Nozal working for him) and Mancebo look really good.
12 out of the top 14 are spanish - its going to another spaniard this year in reality but which one?
