Landis is proving it

we've forgotten that riders used to do quite well with limited team

CyclingNews.com? Levi will crack the top ten again, but anything
better than that please? Don't tell me Mick Rogers has a valid chance
at anything.

Discovery have gotta be HUGELY disappointed. Figure on them retooling
and cleaning house for 2007.

Kloden looks strong but not strong enough for the end. I don't think
T-Mobile can crack Landis. They'll probably start getting discouraged
in the middle of the Alps stages. Menchov can still be a rival though.
Evans and Sastre I'm not sure about. They could have a monster stage
but they'll be under a watchful eye.

But of course. If a rider doesn't have team mates around, there are always
others quite willing to help - often for relatively little money. Indurain
was a past master in striking deals like that.

And as it gets nearer to Paris, all Landis will have to worry about is
sucking the wheels of whoever is second. The second will mind the third, the
third the fourth, etc. Of course if it turns out that T-Mobile are both
second AND third, or the second and third have made a deal, then better open
the checkbook!

Yes, I remember their excellent tactics when they
used to take the race to Lance and make him work
to stay in yellow. :-)

As another poster around here said: there is little enough
difference between Discovery riders and other riders, such
as T-Mobile's. The difference is in focus, and D has none.
JB puzzles me.

going well right now and will improve. They will have to resign Creed so

Of course, that's the perfect solution. Discoboys ride better in the service
of the yellow jersey, it's a now well established fact. They ride for Floyd,
and automatically they'll be helping themselves.

Actually it seems pretty easy to me - Levi and his team will ride their
hearts out for second place. If Floyd and Phonak make a deal with them it's
pretty much in the bag unless Levi blows up and I don't think he will.

Landis from the Cycling News interview:
"We told most of the guys that it wasn't necessary to have the whole
team there with me, even one guy would be enough. Probably some people
misjudged the strength of our team to think that they're all bad; today
we gambled a little. A couple of teams were very confident and did most
of the work for us. Probably we can't expect that to happen anymore,
but we take it."

Maybe this is just spin, but it does make some sense. This would be the
one day that at least one team would be guarantee'd to run a power play
and all Floyd had to do was follow and have one strong teammate to
supply water. We'll see how the team does down the road.
