  1. According to the radio news this morning Landis had a suspicious level
of testosterone in his body after the day he rose from 11th to 3rd.

I hope he is banned for life if it is true.

I don't want to jump to conclusions early (it sounds like the result is
an 'indicative' test rather than definitive proof of doping).

But I can say that I was shocked, appalled and devastated when I heard
the news this morning. I was eating my Nutella toast and watching
Sunrise, when i saw it scroll across the bottom of the screen.

    Say it ain't so, Phlandis!!

    Sad Abby... 🙁

  3. You would think the teams would have better medicos than this to avoid this sort of thing from happening.
    Sack the staff.
    Ban the riders.
    Re-stage the TDF.

There is no such thing as heroes anymore.

    choke on your Nutella toast

Thing about these sorts of tests is that they rely on an individual
falling neatly in to the bell curve.

And the Testosterone curves have been skewed to one side by some bugger
riding with only one nut. :-)

Hey, I'm not wasting my Nutella toast for nothing!!! Yum, yum.....

    Cheers,
Abby (Oooh Nutella!! We always say yes to Nutella!! We eat up every
little bit, that hazelnut & chocolate - it always puts a smile on my
face!! Oh what a marvellous taste!! We spread it, and spread it - we
    just like being fed it...)

Just need one more of the first 4 places in the TdF to be knocked out and Cadel will be a podium finisher!!

I heard an endocrinologist talking on ABC radio this morning. He said that measuring testosterone is difficult and that testosterone can be raised measurably through many means, including having 'naughty' thoughts. If Flandis' testosterone was up, you might ask: "what was he thinking while he was on the bike on stage 17?"

The Flandis doping issue was a major issue on ABC talkback radio this morning. One positive - I don't think a cycling doping issue would have got this much interest 10 or even 5 years ago.

Thing about these sorts of tests is that they rely on an individual falling neatly in to the bell curve. Something in my wife's regular blood tests didn't fall in to the bell curve (she used to have regular testing because she dealt with anti-cancer drugs) and she had to have a top doctor in the field sign off stating that for her those levels were normal.

    Maybe: "I'm shagged." ;-)

  11. TdF officials allowed him to use cortisone, although it's use *may* lower the testosterone count. Confused, but then I’m no trained pharmacist.

Flandis can use the Dennis Mitchell "sex and alcohol" explanation ...

Found this on another group. Also, I think I read that the T/E ratio has
been dropped from 6:1 to 4:1.

"The presence of a testosterone (T) to epitestosterone (E) ratio
greater than six (6) to one (1) in the urine of a competitor
constitutes an offence unless there is evidence that this ratio is due
to a physiological or pathological condition, e.g. low epitestosterone
excretion, androgen producing tumour, enzyme deficiencies.

"In the case of T/E greater than 6, it is mandatory that the relevant
medical authority conducts an investigation before the sample is
declared positive. A full report will be written and will include a
review of previous tests, subsequent tests and any results of endocrine
investigations. In the event that previous tests are not available, the
competitor should be tested unannounced at least once per month for
three months. The results of these investigations should be included in
the report. Failure to co-operate in the investigations will result in
    declaring the sample positive"

That's easy to say what Flandis was thinking: "Gees.. winning the TdF is better than sex!!" 😄

From The Age this morning - A ratio greater than 4:1 is considered a
positive test, triggering an investigation to determine whether any other
factors could be involved. The threshold was recently lowered from 6:1.

Found this. There's been some noise over this change. The question is,
what was Floyds ratio? If it was over 6:1 then...

Hmmm - so would there be any problems with downloading thumbnails of my
favourite, ummm, 'actresses' from Google Images, and then taping them
to my handlebars (right next to the 'puter)?? How many seconds/km do
you reckon that would boost me in a 40km ITT...??

Better make sure I wear my black knicks... *laughs*

    Cheers,
    Abby

Cippo used to have a painting of a nude Pamela Anderson on his head stem.
When a journalist asked him why it wasn't a picture of his wife, he said
something like "I already know what she looks like in the nude."

Reports say 11:1, but they're unofficial. Suggestions that it's more a
case of low E rather than high T. The real question is what his ratio
was in the past, I suspect.

There's this from the Landis wikipedeia entry :

"The exact T/E ratio measured for Landis has not been made public, and
there is some debate as to whether the test necessarily proves
doping.[9] In particular, hypothyroidism, which Landis has, causes low
levels of SHBG, which in turn can cause relatively high levels of
testosterone (since testosterone must bind with SHBG before it can be
biologically processed out of the system). The net result is an
accumulation of testosterone and an abnormally high T/E ratio. Even
though he is on medication for his hypothyroidism, thyroid levels are
notoriously unstable in those with hypothyroidism, even if taking
    medication[citation needed]"
