I too was happy that people were there, but was disappointed with the numbers. I'm afraid that the race may not be around next year given the crowd size. If it was this small in Atlanta, I can't imagine what it was like in the other cities. On the plus side, the small crowd size made it easy to talk and get close to the riders.

This quote from VeloNews might clear a few things up:
"Under the orders of the USADA, Paul Scott (Landis's expert) was denied access to the LNDD," he said in a statement. "Hence, the analyses of two samples were carried out without Landis representatives, something which constitutes a violation of his rights and casts a serious shadow over the integrity of an already suspect procedure.
It sounds like five or six of the tests came back hot and likely USADA didn't see any point in sticking around for the last two. So when Landis' rep showed up, he was denied access but by that time it was pointless. That's my read-between-the-lines theory.

The real surprise, however, was Tyler's reception. I think he received the largest applause of anyone when they announced him at the start and not a single boo or bad remark. I also overheard several people discussing how "innocent" he is. Really remarkable.
That is pretty typical for any doper though.Very few Italian fans would boo Pantani.
Very few Belgian fans would boo Museeuw.
Very few French fans would boo Virenque.
Very few Aussies would believe Ian Thorpe (swimmer) could be guilty. The problems is all these damn foreigners that dope! Always the bloody foreigners...

why do these organizations keep stepping on their collective units?
I don't know but they never seem to miss an opportunity to do so.All they would have had to do was test at another lab and it would have been a knockout punch. It would have vindicated LNDD as well. Now we are going to have to listen to French conspiracy nuts like bobke and House forever.

Here's a thread on a doper board on how to beat the epi testosterone (E:T) test. Pretty enlightening.

helmut, I am beginning to worry about the amount of time that you are spending reading these doping boards... Are you aiming for a new look?
Maybe you should stick to the Colt 45. 😄

Scheduling the TdG's queen stage on a Friday is not going to help. The teams allowing a thirty minute break is not helpful either. -

.and now this... so they did have access after all or was it no access ? Landis is full of sheisse....
_______ollowing yesterday's claims by French newspaper L'Equipe that seven of Floyd Landis' B-samples from the 2006 Tour de France contained synthetic testosterone, Landis and his legal team have strongly criticised both the Châtenay-Malabry (LNDD) laboratory that carried out the testing procedure, and the US Antidoping Agency (USADA).
During a teleconference held on Monday, Landis' attorney Maurice Suh said that their experts sent to oversee proceedings were denied access to certain parts of the testing while USADA officials were given unrestricted access to all areas. "Our observers were not allowed to see critical parts of the analysis," he said. "This is in stark contrast to the fact that USADA's expert - not just their expert, but their lawyer - was present at LNDD. They basically had free reign over the LNDD while our experts did not. The observation of what occurred was one-sided, and that onesidedness was directed by USADA's lawyer."
Suh did acknowledge that: "Generally, when our observers were there they were able to see some of the results," and said that Landis and his team were aware of some of the "top line results" during last week's testing. "These tests are complex," he continued. "They're not like a pregnancy test... certainly we have not received full documents or data that could help us analyse these results."
Regarding the source that leaked the results to L'Equipe, another of Landis' lawyers, Howard Jacobs, claimed that it could only have been someone inside the LNDD or USADA, and that he will ask the arbitration panel to require both parties to provide affidavits under oath that they were not the source of the leak. "The source of the leak is relevant to some of the improprieties that occurred during this retesting," said Jacobs.
While it remains to be seen whether this latest information will be considered at the arbitration panel hearing on May 14, Landis and his team are considering a motion to have it dismissed by either the panel itself or a district court judgement. "If we were to be able to get more time (a delay), that would be terrific, and that is something we will bring to the panel's attention," said Suh.
Landis himself spoke briefly during the teleconference, continuing to protest his innocence. "I won the Tour fair and square," he said. "It's just another example of that the very few rights the athlete has are being completely ignored by the antidoping authorities. This leak itself confirms the total lack of ethics within the antidoping organisations, specifically with regard to the LNDD and USADA.
"We're looking at potentially deliberate falsification of results and willful destruction of evidence - which was one of our arguments against the retesting being done at that lab (LNDD)."
The new claim by the respected news outlet has, at this stage, not been confirmed by any official channels from either USADA or LNDD.

smoke and mirrors and smoke and mirrors....at this point it's useful to go back to the ruling that allowed USADA to do the retests and to remember that:
The two arbitrators agreed that test results could not be deemed official positives, but said that the findings might be admissible as evidence under certain circumstances. The panel will rule later on whether to allow that and other evidence gathered by both sides to be used in the hearing.
In other words, these positives can't be used to sanction Landis and may not even be admissable as evidence. Landis' problem here is that, after holding all the cards in the PR war (being allowed to spin away merrily whilst all other parties are bound by protocol not to speak out) he has been outplayed by the USADA who have the headlines 'More Landis Doping Tests Positive' on their side.
Here's something to ponder - Equipe stated that the tests had finished on Saturday, yet the Landis camp are jumping up and down about being denied access on Sunday, by which point the testing was finished.
Landis and his team remind me of a bunch of spoilt little boys who just got their bonfire [censored] on - time to retain a shred of dignity and put your hands up before you become another martyred, bankrupt doper...

Good post. When I read the denied access story I noted on the news website I read it on the source was the "Floyd Fairness fund" !! Also I note that USADA or the LAB have not released an official statement on the re-tests but Landis has released one for the story printed in l'Equipe.... what happens if the lab comes back the samples were clean ? I know they won't be but Landis should respond to official statements not a dirty filthily American hating tabloid newspaper.
The irony of all this is Landis is claiming the lab is out of order for leaking stories on his samples yet he feels completely within in his right to say or print what ever he likes about the Lab, the UCI or anyone else ? Pot, kettle, black in any order you like….

Landis is bolloxed, frankly.
Before the latest confirmation of his positive tests over this weekend, the Landis
interview in last months Cycle Sport magazine quoted him as saying......
"whatever happens (in the upcoming test results) they can't take away the 2006 TDF title from me".Indeed Floyd.

Has a TdF winner (or any GT winner, for that matter) ever had a victory taken off the record books? 😕

By pure coincidence I am sure 😉, another Postal/Disco rider was stripped. Heras. Damn, liked him too. Pantani's 1999 win didn't hit the record books, but he was pretty much screwed out of that one. -

Aha. Forgot about Heras.
