For those who might be interested in what Lance said in the interview on CBS. He said he loves the TDF and he thinks he will be back because the race is huge worldwide. Also he said SC was a big help supporting him while winning the tour. He was asked about what Greg said, and he was careful with his words. He only said to look at how fast Greg TT times were in 89 and if he, Lance was cheating, then why wouldn't the times be faster today? Also he said he was afraid that an angry fan might pop out and punch him in the gut like happened to Merckx and he was really sacred and it didn't happen. Lance said that he has been called a doper, cheater and a loser and that for someone to call him that there needs to be followed up with extraordinary proof and that no one has come up with any proof that he, Lance is doping.

When asked if he would be back next year he said the tour is "my reason for getting up in the morning" and that he'd be back on the tour.
Why in the world would he skip a year? That makes no sense at all. Personally, I think he'll go as long as he keeps on winning or until he feels unsafe. Why would he do anything else. He is living his dream and he is showing no signs of slowing down. This was a decisive win. I betchya he rides in two more, mimimum, but probably 3. 9 conceutive wins would be hard to beat anytime soon.

If Armstrong's performance since he was diagnosed with cancer has been miraculous and supposedly must be because of doping, and Lemond is still better, then where does that leave Lemond?
I would hope and expect this year to be an eye opener for Jan. He still has winning potential but it wont happen without focus and work. He had fun all year and now he pays the penalty with not even a podium spot.

Jan looked happy on the podium with team members joking around and such. Second fiddle isn't all that bad. Coming into the tour, it was mainly the Lance-Jan show for starters. He's the big gentle german machine that everybody was watching and seems somewhat content. True, the eternal second in previous tours but maybe he's a happier camper then you think.

To show the world that he's able to win the other races too. Otherwise outside of the USA he'll be always considered a part time king, 3 weeks a year of reign. If he keeps on racing only the Tour it's because he knows that he's not able to do what the Cannibal, the Badger and the other real greats used to.

Yes, but I think Lance is more then likely not interested in the other races as much since 7 tours is more the tempting piece of cheese then trying to win the others. Why ruin a good thing? Since TDF is the bigger bread winner, and endorsements will continue to rake millions then TDF will always be the pearl in the oyster for Lance. Winning the others would just be to show the world he can win those races but maybe he just doesn't care enough about being compared to Merckx. He couldn't win enough to be compared to Merckx anyway. Lance is a TDF addict, he will race until he loses and then maybe retire. I think he would rather go out on top rather then step down to winning one classics or the Giro. The fact that the Tour is by far the most famous cycling race on your side of the Ocean does not mean that here it is the same thing. By your standard Sampras and Agassi should always have played only Wimbledon, disregarding the Roland Garros, Flushing Meadows, Australian Open and the Masters.
The other Grand Tours and the Monuments had always been as important as Le Tour. If you yankees want to change that, the only solution is to keep you out of this sport. I think Verbrugghen got it and this is the reason for which he's starting the pro tour thing. The first step is to force the teams to ride them all. In a few years he'll require that all the top riders do it. If don't ride one, you ride none. Take it or leave it. It's you yankees that are forcing Hein to do this.
