Lance's gesture to Jan

I didn't see it, but it was probably a tongue in cheek "now THAT'S how you ride off-road" in
reference to Ullrich's 2001 spill.

Perhaps Jan thought they would wait for Beloki but Armstrong knew there was no need to wait.

Jan commented about it in German TV. Armstrong wanted him to do some work in the wind. Jan found it
unfair, because Beloki crashed.

If you watch the Eurosport highlight clip, at 1:05 into the clip the camera is next to Lance as he
passes Ullrich. If you turn up the volume, you can hear him say "C'mon, we can't give him time" as
he makes the gesture implying Vino is up the road.

Lance has got some cheek !! As soon as he loses his "friend" who rode him up the Alp yesterday
behind Mayo and was doing the work again today to catch up with Vino, he tries to find another
"friend"...I guess it can't hurt to ask, but if you're a 4 time winner and are carrying the Yellow
Jersey, you've got to be ready to do the work ?!

I don't think the 'we won't attack a crashed rider' unspoken rule pertains in the last 5K when the
4th place GC guy is toodling on down the road.

I agree...Vino was as big a threat as Beloki. Lance saw a nasty crash and he knew that Beloki had no chance to reintegrate. If Vino or a rider of that GC position was not out front then the group should have waited.

It was just prior to the off-road incident. I couldn't tell who he was doing it to, but he

No, I just saw it 10 seconds ago - it was just after he rejoined the road. He touched his front
brake just before coming around Ullrich. I think it was a "Gonna ride that bike, or just sit there"
kind of thing.

No big deal - that and more must happen hundreds of times a day.

No, LANCE is quoted (cyclingnews I think) saying that he didn't think the crash was that bad. He
behaved as he did after Ullrich's crash. He joined the group and rode relatively modestly until
the sprint.

I wonder if he radio was working. That is a bit odd to not have found out. Maybe the Tour radio did

I don't think so. Even Beloki's teammate Jörg Jaksche who waited right beside him needed about four
minutes to realize how terrible the situation was. The crash happened at about 16:48, Armstrong
finished at about 16:53. Probably he became aware only after the race.
