Merckx won the Tour/Giro double 3 times while winning both races 5 times.
And probably a dozen or more spring classic wins. And the hour record. And
that just scratches the surface.

Lance has a long way to go, not enough time, and he isnt even travelling in

What an idiot. Have you ever seen Merckx palamares? In fact add several
others. Even Lance has said quite humbly that he would never compare himself
to Merckx. And it's not just Coppi and Bartali, there are a number of
others. Indu-Train, Big Mig won the Giro and the TDF, in the same year. You
can make arguments about Lance for TDF only, but don't even think about
comparing him to recent greats of cycling. Besides the TDF, Lances palamares
are anemic. He specializes in the TDF and that's it. When he starts winning
more classics and the Giro then I will take notice compared to other greats.
But for the TDF he is in the best company of the greats.

How many teams from other countries are invited to those ball-and-stick

Think about this for a minute. How much golf, baseball, football and
basketball is on ABC, NBC and CBS, when stars like Tiger Woods and others
are playing and how often? Good grief, coverage is several hours on regular
basis. OLN is a pay channel and the viewership is limited. TDF coverage on
ABC, CBS and NBC is a huge insult, non existence. When I was at the car
dealer the other day, a typical uptown city girl I talked to had no idea who
Lance was. Cycling has a small audience compared to baseball, football and
basketball. Would someone be more likely to remember Barry Bonds or Lance?
How about Tiger Woods or say Joe Montana, Michael Jordan? In the cycling
world, sure it's Lance but add the whole world of sports then you have to
look at how big the sport is? Would someone say there goes Pele from the

that the masses get had regular coverage of cycling classics then the whole

Staggering. It's a shame that when I was in my teens, when my freinds got me
into cycling that I couldn't see the tour. I knew Eddy was winning in 74
from the news and wanted to see it so bad. Not long after I went out and
bought my first pair of Merckx cycling shoes. I still have them today as a
collectors item. I decided not to wear them out.
