In France you tend you kiss twice when you meet someone, in Belgium you kiss once if it's someone
you don't know well, 3 times if it's someone you know well. Maybe he spent too much time in Belgium?

In France, different regions and different social groups kiss different number of times- 2, 3, or 4.
For instance, I've noticed most Parisians do 2 while those in the suburbs do 4 (maybe it's because
Parisians are in more of a hurry ? 🙂 It can get awkward if you're a 4 kisser and the other person's
a 2 kisser, you tend to get left hanging with a dumb look on your face waiting for the 3rd. In fact,
people sometimes announce how many kisses before they start ("4 fois" or "2 fois"😉.

My guess is that Lance's experiences when he lived in France were in a region where 3 was the norm,
and that's just what he got used to.

BTW, the (yellow) podium girls were interviewed in France and they said they were hoping someone
else would win. They were tired of always kissing Lance, it was getting boring. Is that
anti-american?

That's true for regions outside of Paris where everyone who lioves there kisses the same. In Paris
(except for "true Parisians"😉, people come from all over France (often against their wishes), so the
protocol isn't as uniform as other parts of the country.

In France, men also kiss on the check in greeting depending on their geographical location and
social position.
