UCI rankings and Max Van Heeswijk in 51st. There is a 20
point difference between taking first and second in a grand
tour stage. If Petacchi comes around Fred in the Giro he
falls to 52nd in the UCI rankings and the pick become
discretionary.

There is a 436 point gap between Horner and Fred. A world
cup win is worth 240 points, second is 150. So if Horner
wins two world cup races this spring he's in. If he wins one
and takes second in another he's still a little short.

Georgia was a 2.3 race, 100 points for the winner. A Stage
winner gets 15, the race leader gets 5. There were 7 stages
so if he'd have won all stages he'd still be way short.

If he wins every UCI race in the US this spring including
Philly I think he gets it.

So even though he's richly deserving I think Fred has a
pretty strong case too.

other sports people who have decided not to go for
security reasons.

Nice analysis.

I was being sarcastic regarding Mr. Horner. I think it'd be
cool to have Fred in the Olympics.

I think he's probably going to start training for the World
Ch. and maybe the hour record this winter.

UCI points dont mean [censored] when you pick a national team for
the olympics or worlds. Italy finally realized it when Cipo
won 2 years ago, I think we got it Half right with the US
team in place. The coach should have the final word. If I
were picking the team McCarthy would stay home and Horner
and fred would be going.

I just dont think McCarthy has the ability. He will most
likely get dropped pretty early on just like most of the
domestic guys did worlds in Hamilton. Horner has shown many
times he can ride at the front very late in very big races.
Like Tour of Georga, Hamilton , SFGP ect.

And Fred is by far the fastest guy in the US bar none
for years.
