My guess: Lance was still not at his best, so he could not jump away on the ascend. Jan, OTOH,
didn't try to jump away and instead kind of pulled Lance up the mountain and shortened the distance
to Vino - Lance paid this back by doing similar work on the descent and not trying to get away
there. So Lance could limit the distance to Vino and avoid being beaten by Jan and Jan could avoid
being beaten by Lance and get a safe descent - which, as Beloki showed, is worth something.

Yes, I posted about that yesterday after seeing Lance jump to the front at the top of the climb.

They raced in good intelligence yesterday and Jan certainly appreciated that Lance did some work
when he could.

Often times, cyclists are so stupid and stubborn that they'd rather lose (Virenque and Dufaux
yesterday) than collaborate when they can.

Obviously the reason Lance helped is because he knew he would go faster than Jan and gain time on
Vino, but also because he probably realized Jan didn't shake him off on the climb when he most
likely could have....and the reason Jan didn't do it is because he had no reason to take risks
yesterday with today's stage and the ITT coming up...That's what could be called "good
intellingence"
