I went to the physio today about an unrelated matter to my quads, and he noticed that i have several large knots in my quads.
As i have a TTT on sunday he didn't want to get rid of them today in case i have any pain on sunday, so he left them until i go back next week. I have a 2 day stage race next weekend so i guess he won't ease them out then either.
What i am hoping to find out is are there any ways that i can get the knots out other than going to the physio? is it best left to the professionals?
I generally have a big problem with knots in my legs and the 3 ways i have dealt with this over the last 10 years are to: 1) ice my legs down after race/workout 2) stretch for 15-30 minutes after race/workout (i watch the simpsons while i do it!) 3) self massage the knots daily and get a proper massage every couple of weeks.
Also stretch when you feel stiff and you should be able to minimise your trips to the physio. I have only had to see a physio once in the last 10 years.
also try and get to some yoga classes if possible...
i stretch and do the cold shower hot shower thing. I recently started taking glucosimine and msm just the generic walmart brand like 140 tabs for 6 bucks. I take 6 tabs a day it is for joint pain but it has eased the nots in my legs. Also I take vitamin E it is supposed to promote blood flow. I am a diabetic so i also take one aspirin a day lol. Seems like a lot but it is just health store stuff lol, and it has made a difference for the last six months. It allows me to ride harder and longer without knee pain. I use to play rugby and started riding bikes after an injury. Just my two cents.
you can burst the pills and rub them on your legs lol but i recommend getting the real cheap ones yeah i may play one more season over here we focus on power rather than finesse when we played a team that was from the uk they wiped our a%% all over the field but learned we needed to learn the ins and outs of the game we got better but never enough to win against some guys that played all there lives lol but one hell of a sport!!!!
Played the champions of texas a couple of years ago, we beat them but they were the only team to put points on us all season they got a penalty in front of the posts!
can't remember what the school was called but they were quite good by american standards we were told
No I was trying out for our national team when i got hurt. Lol maybe it was for the good cause they got their butts kicked I dont like to lose. But you guys over there are incredible. We play a physical american football game but the true game of rugby is leverage who ever gets lower in the scrums is gonna when them. I watched a uk team on tv and there buts were close to touching the grounds hell you lock out like that and no one can push you around anywhere. I think if rugby was pushed here it would kill football. I love rugby as much as basketball.

Hi, have you tried doing stretches before your ride as well as afterwards, it may help to vary the leg stretches you do, ie. increase the amount & variants.
