    I need to buy some knee/shinguards for a trip to the Alps
    but can't decide between the 661 Race Lite's and the Dainese
    Freestyle. There's no shops that stock them near to me so
    I'd need to order them on-line so I'd be interested in any
    thoughts on which are the best before ordering them.

    The 4x4's suggested are heavy, for serious DH use. They
    cannot be put on, taken off easily.

    those are not the 4x4s. That is the "Race" model.

    That is just not true. First of all, the 4x4s are easy on
    and off with velcro. Second, they are lightweight but solid
    protection. I can stick them under the shock cord of my
    camelbak if I want to have them along but i don't want to
    wear them. I'd recommend them as a great recreational pad
    for those times when you want a little protection.

    The 4x4 I had wouldn't go on over your shoes. Was the design
    changed. I've had both and IMHO the Race model is better for
    traveling thru the Alps.

    The 4x4 I had wouldn't go on over your shoes. Was the
    design changed. I've had both and IMHO the Race model is
    better for traveling thru the Alps.

    the ones I have open out flat and wrap around your legs and
    close with velcro. Unless you have wierd shoes, I don't see
    how that would be a problem.

    I like the EVS SC04 myself. It doesn't bind and fit is great.

    Fox 911's. Make sure thay're the '04's though.
