I'm sure she's just doing it for training, and doesn't are about her
results. Maybe switching made her ineligible for prize money. I'm sure the
women were okay with it.

As to the OP's comment; did you not notice that her time in the ITT would
have put her in 6th place in the pro/1/2 men (out 75), and 2nd place in the
cat-3 men (out of 94). And yes, she beat all the cat-4's, by plenty. Maybe
you also didn't see that some guys even _I_ have heard of were well behind
her in the ITT; Chris Wherry, Danny Pate, Dirk Friel (is he good? I don't
know) to name a few.

Also, did you not notice that in stage 2, she was the first across the line
after the break, which all had the same time. Maybe you also need it
pointed out to you that the 2nd, 4th, and 6th place finishers in the cat-3
ITT also did not make the break and in fact finished well behind her.
Anybody who races knows that just because you're talented doesn't mean that
you make every break. She missed it for whatever reason, but so did 78
other guys, and she lost the least time of all 78. Last but not least, she
was undoubtedly racing w/o teammates.

As for stage 3, she was 9th out of 61 finishers (a bunch obviously DNF'd).
Yes, I guess she is no good, no good at all.

Yes, I noticed some of the things you pointed out. I know she can beat the
4's. I just worded it that way to bait some responses. It's hard to get
anyone interested in talking the girls, except Longo and Jeanson but
Bruckner was considered out best, her results have been lacking the last
year or so but then she had the cancer ordeal to contend with. I actually
find it interesting that she was racing with the men. Bruckner is good but
we don't really have a stand out rider like Bessette or Jeanson here in
America. Lungskog said she wanted to race with the men a while back. I
wonder if she ever did?

Racing with the boys can be fun, though I'm not good enough to hang with the
cat 1/2's. Most guys are pretty nice to us chicas, yet still treat us like
equals. Though I remember one bozo who kept trying to steal the wheel Iwas
camped solidly onto. I refused to budge, and finally had to elbow him away,
when I realized it was someone I know (and who can be a bit of an ass). I'm
beting he didn't try any of that [censored] with the guys his own size.

I did most of the early season training races with the cat-3 boys, (to get
some big back experience in prep for Redlands) and it was becoming quite a
trend. One March cat-3 (men's) race had no fewer than 7 women starting
although admittedly, some of them probably shouldn't have been there. My
most fun time in the training races was the day I started with the women;
had a mechanical; fixed it and jumped back on the road, only to be caught by
the Master A/B men. Finished their race with them, obviously not contesting
the sprint. As if I could anyway. (They were fun, and so laid back. Some
dudes were still having a conversation 1 km from the finish. Most seemd
quite happy to have me there.) Then an hour later, started the cat-3 boys
race, finishing 2 of 4 laps with the pack before voluntarily dropping out.
I'm sure I was the only person to race in 3 different fields that day, and
finish none of them. :-)

Interesting story, heres one for you. Short but sweet. I used to climb with
a few local cat-1,2 on climbs here in the Sierras. One day during the summer
when I was feeling my oats and climbing pretty well near Greedly Hill on a
big climb, I got passed by a girl who flew past me, and she was really
hammering away. I was about half spent from two previous huge climbs but I
tried to get her wheel. I finally gave up as I knew I needed to throttle
back as I still had a couple of big climbs left to get home. Who was she? I
don't know, but the babycakes could climb like a deer. You never know when
someone might be stalking your wheel on a big climb here. Another time I
caught the wheel of a girl that was just blazing down Greedley Hill, I
followed her for a few miles and when I passed her I noticed she was foaming
at the mouth. She was really gasping, as I was barely breathing, but she
sure gave it a hell of an effort. Never knew who that girl was that passed
me on the climb, maybe Jeanson. Just kidding!

One of the coolest races this year was Flèche Wallonne. The Dream team of
east meets west was cool as the 4 of the best in the world were in a break.
Luperini, Brandli, Bessette and Jeanson.

Not related to women racing with men, but a number of years ago we had
a big women's crit where I live, and one of the local women did the
women's 4s, got second, upgraded to 3 (she had previous points on her
license) and did the women's 3 race, and then did the women's 1-2-3.
I think she won money in all three races.

According to the race website's list of pre-reg riders, Ms. Bruckner
was listed in the Cat 3 men. She also started her TT within the time
slot of the Cat 3 men, some 90 minutes or so prior to when the P-1-2-3
women started. The local paper the following morning had Kimberly
listed in the women's results for whatever reason, better story I
guess. It should also be pointed out that there was a strong tailwind
when both the SM4's and SM3's rode. The wind died down and even
shifted around somewhat by the time the P-1-2 men went later on in the
evening. Having riden this time trial course a half dozen or so times
in the past I would put the tailwind the SM3's had at about a 90
second advantage over those of us that had no such tailwind later in
the evening. The last time we did this course as a time trial was back
in 1999. On a calm day, no Cat 4's broke 20 minutes, and only a
handful of us racing Cat 3 broke 20. Winning Cat 3 time was just a
shade over 19 minutes. Winning P-1-2 time that day was right around
what Moninger did this go around. Tough TT course for sure.

As for the road race the next day, read Chris Wherry's comments about
the dirt road section. I likened it to riding through my kid's
sandbox. Wherry made basically the same comment to the reporters
following the race. I'm sure Kimberly has much bigger fish to fry then
risk life and limb amongst a group of Cat 3 guys on a road covered
with 2 inches of soft sandlike dirt.
