While Williams beavers away trying to find the definitive "killfile"
criteria, in another attempt to disbar his enemies from MFW, a task
in which I suspect he is likely to find only limited success, let us
look again at my views on "killfiling":

What is the point of killfiles? If you don't want to read someone's
contributions, just ignore them and pass on by. Williams has always
proudly proclaimed that he has never "killfiled" anyone.

Genuine "killfiling" (if there is such a thing) must be like a mole
burrowing underground, oblivious to what is going on other than on its
own chosen course. The "killfiles" may delete the offending posters
from the killfilers in-box, but they remain in all other posts in any
particular thread and are therefore always highly visible, unless you
"killfile" the thread or extend the "killfiling" to all respondents.

The use of "killfiles" is normally the defensive reaction of some
would-be stroppy [censored], who has given another contributor the [censored],
got more than he bargained for and decides to run for cover. That way
he can make out he can't see what his former antagonist is saying, and
therefore (he thinks) he is honourably excused from all further
    response.

The truth of the matter is that most killfilers don't actually
"killfile" anyone. They are terrified of missing something so they
read everything but then think they have a good excuse not to respond.
In a nutshell, "killfiles" are nothing more or less than an alleged
hiding place for the faint of heart.

So in a nutshell, whatever Williams comes up with, MFW will remain
pretty much as it always has. The exception may be that those who want
to play Williams' little game, will simply talk only to each other and
proclaim how wonderful Williams is, and how nice it is to be rid of
    the "trolls"

Remember where you heard it first. ;o)

This dribble doesn't make you less of a schmuck.

I'm sorry I can't respond to this as I have you "killfiled".

Sounds pretty good to me, even without the proclamations of gratitude.

    Thank you John.
I think that Dally is using the individual.net server.

    Yes. I just checked. But there's a workaround. She uses Mozilla;
Hudson uses Agent. It can still be done.

Sure it can John Boy, are you having a great time?

What if I just use my Outlook Express account, which is all set up,
    with my alternatives servers?

This is going to be so much fun, and will give me a chance to hone my
    skills.

Were you all using a decent OS like Linux with its newsreaders, there
wouldn't be a need for hopping backwards and things like nfilter. For
example, slrn can score articles based on any header and filter them
    through regular expressions.

Not that I use that capability here because I never read MFW.
So, speaking of that, stop editing MY \\dreaded// (alleged)
killfiles <spit> and subscribing me to MFW.

    Back to the bozo bin.

    "Charles" babbles some more [censored]

I know chucky doesn't know the meaning of big words like hypocrite.

I guess he is busy in his make believe world creating wars and dramas
    where none exists.

But if reasonable people want to avoid his constant blathering, they must
killfile him twenty times a week because he constantly changes his e-mail
    addy.

Which means he show ups everywhere, no matter haow people try to avoid
him. Which means that chucky is truly evil. Killfiles would be a means to
avoid somebody. It implies that individuals have an actual choice about
who they want to read. But chucky won't allow it. His constant drivel is a
campaign to make sure no training or nutrition topics are ever discussed
    in MFW.

Which simply means that his warped needs and fantasies have the effect of
killing a once vital newgroup. If you want to know when the big event
occurred that killed this newsgroup, It is when the dreaded HUDSON
(chucky) persona showed up and stunk the place up. And like a stubborn
    fungus, he won't leave.

The reason that chucky has to identify me as a troll is because I do
directly address his sick troll campaign for what it is. I do remember a
time when varied EXPERTS did address various training concerns. Since
chucky has no such expertise, he moved in and made MFW his own personal
    host. Which every parasite requires.

And make no mistake, Chucky is horrified to have any kind of nfilter
information made available to this group. I introduced the nfilter idea
based on the successful implementation in another newgroup.

It ain't no secret that chucky will be indentified as a troll and put into
these filters by many people. And these prople will be making their own
decisions. Democracy in action. Unlike the gang of trolls approach that
    chucky loves so much.

I don't know what will happen. But rest assured, nobody will make any
meaningful changes in their life or body because of anything that chucky
    says.

    But . . . . but . . .Lee . . . could you 'splain something to me. I gather
that you would like to killfile Charles but he foxes you by changing his
addy. So he comes up as a post under his name 'Charles'. So, being an
intelligent person as we all know that you are, when you see a post with the
name "Charles" and knowing that you do not want to be bothered by people
whose name is "Charles", why don't you simply IGNORE these posts with that
name? What about that big word 'hypocrite'? You've never killfiled anyone
Lee - you can't bear to miss anything.

You make some good points David, which of course he won't be able to
address because he *is* a "troll" and simply won't admit it.

Or could it be that he has you two "killfiled" and therefore can't see you?

Oops, I guess looking up destroys that theory, ;~)

Nah, it's probably because my silly old Mac-only newsreader actually has
a very functional and efficient killfile system.

In any case, I find the group perfectly readable if somewhat short on
content at the moment. I hope that the people who post good-to-read
things will sort out their killfiles and keep posting.

    NewsWatcher?

I use MacSoup. I have NewsWatcher, but I prefer the MacSoup interface.
    It's text-only, though - no binaries.

I'm working on it, Lee. If he's the only one around here that still
uses the Berlin server, I may have an answer.

Why is this so hard? Surely I can't be the only one here who's managed
to figure out how to keep these asswads killfiled?

By constantly adding each new nym?

Well, I do have several entries for repeat offenders, but I'm generally
able to specify just a part of the name that they use and that takes
care of it. They're not smart enough to fundamentally alter their
names, so any permutation of "omelet" goes straight to the bozo bin. I
have Billy killfiled by newsreader, so it doesn't matter how often he
changes his name or what he changes it to. In any case, it only takes
about ten seconds to make a new entry. It's totally worth it.

I have the option to killfile on the following header characteristics:

    Distribution
    Follow-up to
    From
    Keywords
    Lines
    Newsgroups
    Organization
    Path
    Reply-to
    Sender
    Summary
    Subject
    User-agent
    X-mailer
    X-newsreader

Killfiled posts are downloaded as headers only, and I have the option to
download the post if I choose. I only see them in the graphical thread
display, or if I change my view of fresh posts to "new" instead of
    "unread."

Sounds pretty good to me, even without the proclamations of gratitude.

What, that MFW is going to remain pretty much the same, except without
    you and dopey Michaels?

I think that sounds pretty good too; you're the last one I had to deal
with and now you're opting out too. ;o)
