What a result ! Just been asked to join a company sponsored and paid
for expedition of 10 people to attempt to climb Kilimanjaro on Jan 23
to 30 next year. Not only is it a trip of a lifetime, paid for by the
company, I don't even have to use any of my holiday allowance to go !
We are of course doing this for a charity, The National Autistic
Society, and have targeted ourselves to raise £50,000 as a team before
we go. We have sponsors paying for all flights, hotels and porterage
etc so any money we raise goes straight to the NAS. Needless to say
should any of you kind people out there feel the need to part with
some pennies then feel free to email me to discuss how you can help.
On a personal note, I have dipped into numerous websites and got all
the blurb from them but as I am sure some of the group have already
achieved this then any personal tips, specially on how to cope with
the altitude will be more than gratefully received. Apart from one of
our group who has already summited Kili 3 times, I am the only other
person with any walking experience at all ( yes I know the others can
actually walk which is a good start !). We are going the "easy"
tourist or Coca Cola route so the actual daily distances and ascents
do not worry me too much although I am sure that the altitude will
have a very significant effect as my highest climb so far is Nevis.
So, any hints, tips, advice from those who have actually done the
climb, or attempted and failed, will be very useful.
Cheers
Graham
