xc has a smaller tire and i think a smaller rim

Go for the one with the fatter tire... that's what I'd do.

the same strong hub and frame as the KH24 Freeride, but comes with a
lighter weight tire, rim, and shorter (150 mm) cranks."

The differences are, in order of importance for me...

- The Freeride has 165mm cranks, the XC has shorter 150mm cranks.
- The Freeride has a Duro 3" tyre, the XC has a slightly smaller
Kenda 2.6" tyre.
- The Freeride has a 42.2mm wide rim, the XC has a slightly narrower
38mm rim.

...and all that means the XC is 0.5kg or 1.1lbs lighter. Everything else
is exactly the same: the frame, the hub, the pedals, the saddle, the
rail seatpost...

Which one to go for depends on how extreme or gentle you are. The
Freeride is more suitable for technical/rougher terrain, whereas the XC
is a tiny bit better when it comes to longer distance trails.

I have the XC version and I'm very happy with it. I chose that because
I mainly ride gravel tracks and bridleways, making for longer rides
which are less of a burden with the shorter cranks.

I dunno about that, i'll see if i can get the freeride with the shorter
cranks.
