  1. Yes another Kew crits post ๐Ÿ™‚

I've finally decided to get my act together and start some D grade action.
I've just read Gag's 'first kew crit' post again (2004-12-08) and it sounds
like I could almost keep up.

Never having raced before, I thought I'd ask some seasoned racers what I
required... From what I can work out, I have to be a member of a club and
pay $5 per race? Living in Kew I'd assume Hawthorn CC would be my best
    choice.

If anyone can give me some directions it would be greatly appreciated. I'll
be at the Kew crits this Wednesday for a looksee and a chat, with the plan
to start racing the week after.

    cheers all..

    Yep. $25 (or close to?)
See Ray at Blucher Cycles, Bridge Rd and he can sort you out. $5 when you sign up on the day...

    location: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~bdarabug/images/kewcrits.gif

Say hi on the day (me green bike/red helmet).

Maybe a good way to get a feel for it inbetween Wed's is to do 35min at a steady pace (see if you can average 30+kph). sititng in the bunch on raceday will get your speed up higher than when you are solo. Also while youre there practice 'the corner'.
Stay right until AFTER the arrow on the road and then lean/turn. make sure you choose your gear BEFORE the corner so you exit confidently without the crunches and hesitation. I went into my firs tone there with 3 goals in order: Dont crash, Finish the time/distance, Dont get dropped. I achieved the first 2. It took me about 7 more attempts before i achieved all 3...
Hope to see ya down there
(PS what you ridin so I can say hi?)

Excellent, sounds like a good price too. I've been playing around on the
circuit in the last few weeks being only a few kms down Stud Rd from home.
I'll be there tomorrow morning with a close eye on what speed I can push for
    about 35mins.

Current setup is a Giant OCR-1 (Black and white, blade shaped forks), a
blue/grey Limar 909 helmet, and silver/yellow/black Shimano shoes.

What grade do you race in?

cheers for the info, I'm looking forward to getting out there..

Only did 16mins on the circuit after you left, avg 33.36. I'll work it up
5mins at a time during the week until I'm hitting 35-40mins at that pace.
Lots of focus on that corner still required!

    cheers,
