Expensive. I send my riders to see John Beasley, who is a lot
cheaper and I'd suggest "at least as good with bike fit", and
perhaps a little less controversial with his fitting theory.

have only heard 2nd hand opinions, for what its worth, ranging from 'controversial' to OK.

Do a google search on this forum.

I don't rate Kennedy highly - I've posted my experience to this forum when
this topic came up a while back.

My experience with Mark from 100% cycles in Melton was much more positive.

Here is my 50 cents each way bet...... It is not black and white.

I went to Kennedy in Jan/Feb 2005 and generally I think it was mostly a
waste of money ($125) for me personally. He basically tries to sell you a
custom bike by telling you that (almost) no complete road bike exists
off-the-shelf to fit you well. Some of what he says does make sense but
overall John is too radical/extreme for my tastes. I then went out and
bought off-the-shelf 2005 road bike and have no problems riding it (apart
from rider skill/fitness level being poor) despite the fact it has different
dimensions and geometry to what John proposed in areas of STA angle and
top-tube lengths etc.

However, a friend of mine with a semi-bad-back went to John Kennedy, he paid
for a custom bike and is happy with his ride. So John does know what he is
talking about, it appears. We will never know if off-the-shelf bike would
have done as good a job here as a JFK special but there is a $premium$ for
the custom fit road bike.

How many of the people that paid $3k+ for a custom Kennedy are saying
it's great simply because they don't wanna look like they've been taken
for a ride?

How many of these 'bad back' riders got better, not because they were on
a Kennedy, but because they just shelled out $3k+ and were OBLIGED to ride?

Unless someone has money for two bikes - how is anyone going to know
whether or not Kennedy's suggestions work?

trying to sell you ones he has in the shop that can miraculously be made

Remember once you have paid for the information & have the spec. in-hand a
custom geometry road/track frame can still be made for 1000$-$1500 &
Carbon/alloy for $2500+ & made in Europe. You just have to shop at the right
places !

I think you missed the point -- if several of the frames lying around
the shop can be built up to fit, there's probably no need for custom
anything.

True , all I need to do is add 10cm to the stem & swap the cranks & I can
ride most 54cm bikes ...when the now defunct AIS team of the mid-nineties
were equipped with stock frames only one of the team couldn't cope with the
stock design. Thankfully our framebuilder only adds about $100 extra for
custom builds if needed , but as you say most people can cope with the
standard geometry, given that the frame is designed right in the first
place!

My point is that more than 90% of the road bikes on the floors of shop are
from the Far-East (whatever the stickers say) who have no interest in low
volume custom orders. This means custom geometry is handled by an
increasingly smaller number of builders around the World some charge alot
for their expertese, others don't!

thanks for all the interesting feedback, think I have decided to steer away from Kennedy for now, I have heard other good feedback about John Beasley, so I might give him a try when I eventually get around to ti.
