katrina prices redux

Anybody who complains about smog, global warming, high oil prices, wars in
the OPEC regions, and also opposes nuclear power is a [censored]. Electric cars
can be powered by the power grid and the power grid can be powered by
nuclear plants. France runs its entire power grid off 18 nuclear reactors
and exports electrical power to surrounding countries.

Just a reminder -- 100,000,000 solo automobile commutes each day, most of
them in easy bicycle range, many of them would be actually faster by bike

It worked for my dad in Arkansas. He started out at $.04 a KW hour
(paperwork charge) and after 500 KW hours it went down to $.03 and he
still complained. In California it starts at about $.13 a KW hour and
goes up to about $.17 at 500 KW hour and even higher at 1000 KW hours.
My area, close to the generating reservoirs and crowded with HV towers
headed to the Bay area I think is subsidizing those over users abusers.
In the summer the bills are ridiculous due to the air conditioning and
they have the ocean breezes and about 20 degrees cooler. In this case I
will be a [censored] and go for the nuclear if my bill goes down to 1/4 of
what it is now.
It's all about money, in this case in my pocket and not Pacific Gouge &
Extortion.
It could be done with investment in solar, wind, and tidal generation
for much less than the war in Iraq, so it is about oil.
$200 billion of solar and wind installations and we wouldn't need oil.

Folks don't need politicos or pundits to tell them what to do.
Here in Vancouver BC, public transit ridership is already up,
thanks to rising gas prices[*]. And the people with whom I work
are starting to realize I'm not so crazy after all (at least,
for my transportational cycling.)
