You could easily plug Pound's, and lots of riders, names,
respectively, in there in my opinion.
Doubt we'll see it because noone in the sport, the IOC, or legal
community seem to want to fix it, and the riders are cutting each
others throats instead of fighting for objective justice.

We've said all this before Bill. Appologies ain't agonna hack it after the
extremely limited careers of pro cyclists are cut short in their best
earning years.

I agree. Nifong is screwed when the civil suits start coming in. I
wish that someone was actually standing up for the riders the way the
Atty. Gen. did in this case. In the other stories the kids are making
the point that it was just lucky they had the resources to fight this,
and average kids would've been screwed and bankrupted before they
could prove their innocence. Sound familiar?

I don't see that the Attorney General did any thing but go with the
flow. The news reports, the family and friends that fought the charges
and the independent experts are the ones that forced the official
avenues to yield, slowly and after they had no choice. 'Standing up
for the kids' would have been stepping in and doing something
proactive before they ran up legal bills of more than $ 3,000,000.

OTOH, I'm guessing that Nifong won't be practicing law as a lawyer any
time soon. Now if we can get than Anna Nicole Smith case off of the
news, I'm ready to give up legal stuff until the Tour starts...

This party is only starting. Nifong is about average
for a political hack intent on getting reelected. He
proved himself eye-wateringly stupid by choosing

That one is about like calling Paris Hilton news...It just amazes me
that anyone cares, at all other than in the P.T. Barnum sense. Can you
picture Cronkite, or Murrow covering this [censored], or asking them to?
A couple of days ago I stumbled across O'Reilly and Geraldo just
foaming at the mouth screaming at each other over immigration. It was
SO appropriate. Just the idea that Geraldo is a news journalist is
unbelievable. We're supposed to take him as credible, on anything?
I can't remember the last time I watched a network news show. All of
it has about the same factual credibility as pro wrestling, and less
entertainment value. At least the wrestlers are pretty decent athletes
who take a beating for their shows. Most newspapers don't seem to be a
whole lot better anymore either.

Only one is truly rich and one is pretty much your average U.S.
family, but that's irrelevant when Nifong [censored] a bunch of Duke
alumni. There will be the necessary money to do whatever they choose
to do.

Which is why I think Duke will make the restitution - it is cheaper
than the money they aren't going to get until that same alumni group
calms down, and it makes points for the future beside. I give even
money that either Duke or a very closely related entity makes good on
the legal bills before the end of April. They just need time for the
Dukies to do the math.

Nifong evidently wasn't much shakes as a lawyer, but this ends his
career in several ways, unless he moves west. Try to find a practice
or any large group of lawyers on the East coast that doesn't have one
Duke alumni around. A lot like publically bringing down North Carolina
and then trying to join a medical practice between DC and Miami. Not a
good career move. Those alumni are rolling the black balls around like
Caine and his marbles, just hoping to use them.

accusations, and in cases of rape, it's often the *only* viable defense for
a guilty party to pursue, and thus goes back to further victimizing the
victim in many cases. Assuming the truth ever does come out in such cases,
it can take quite a long time to do so. In the meantime, how should the
parties on either side by treated? When does the Attorney General recognize
that it's time to step in and do something?

The nature of this particular crime makes absolute determination of guilt or
innocence much more difficult to determine than following a trail of blood
bags and correspondence to determine if someone's doping or not.

Mike I agree with most of your argument, but this case doesn't fall
under that. As soon as Nifong had the DNA results he hid this case
became something else. There's no question that there should have been
an agressive investigation, but when that became secondary to getting
re-elected and the strategy was to do whatever it took to get there is
when this became a disaster.
I don't see any way to put Nifongs ass in jail for this, and even the
lawsuits are questionable due to the outrageous protections public
servants have made for themselves. Only a complete moron could get
convicted from a government job, especially an elected one. There is
NO real accountability.

Didn't say it wasn't difficult. My point is that the Attorney General
was not out in front and on top of things. He hid until other parties

Yeah. He's got an audience he plays to that likes to think of themselves
