  1. With all the [censored] coming out about my brothers in arms who have failed
us all here's a suggestion from classic literature:
    http://www.kipling.org.uk/poems_deever.htm

    Danny Deever

"WHAT are the bugles blowin' for? " said Files-on-Parade.
"To turn you out, to turn you out," the Colour-Sergeant said.
"What makes you look so white, so white? " said Files-on-Parade.
"I'm dreadin' what I've got to watch," the Colour-Sergeant said.
For they're hangin' Danny Deever, you can hear the Dead March play
    The regiment's in 'ollow square - they're hangin' him to-day;
They've taken of his buttons off an' cut his stripes away,
An' they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.
"What makes the rear-rank breathe so 'ard? " said Files-on-Parade.
"It's bitter cold, it's bitter cold," the Colour-Sergeant said.
"What makes that front-rank man fall down? " said Files-on-Parade.
    "A touch o' sun, a touch o' sun," the Colour-Sergeant said.
They are hangin' Danny Deever, they are marchin' of 'im round,
    They 'ave 'alted Danny Deever by 'is coffin on the ground;
An' e'll swing in 'arf a minute for a sneakin' shootin' hound
0 they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'!

" 'Is cot was right-'and cot to mine," said Files-on-Parade.
" 'E's sleepin' out an' far to-night," the Colour-Sergeant said.
"I've drunk 'is beer a score o' times," said Files-on-Parade.
" 'E's drinkin' bitter beer alone," the Colour-Sergeant said.
They are hangin' Danny Deever, you must mark 'im to 'is place,
    For 'e shot a comrade sleepin' - you must look 'im in the face;
Nine 'undred of 'is county an' the Regiment's disgrace,
While they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

"What's that so black agin the sun? " said Files-on-Parade.
"It's Danny fightin' 'ard for life," the Colour-Sergeant said.
    "What's that that whimpers over'ead? " said Files-on-Parade.
    "It's Danny's soul that's passin' now," the Colour-Sergeant said.
For they're done with Danny Deever, you can 'ear the quickstep play
    The regiment's in column, an' they're marchin' us away;
Ho! the young recruits are shakin', an' they'll want their beer to-day,

After hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

This is my response to this, and several other incidents.

Perhaps he had heard these words from "Alice's Restaurant" and took them
    to heart -

And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I
wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and
guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill,
KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and
he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down
yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me,
sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."

Good recruiting, good screening, good training, good supervision, good
    cause, of course.

He probably didn't need any uniform to get where he was going. Well,
    possibly.

Read up on the aftermath of the Vietnam war, it's a subject worth far more words

    George H.W. Bush, April 16, 1999,

The problem with a stated timetable is that the enemy now has a target
date for when your allied force will be massively weakened. They go
underground, drop the ops tempo to conserve resources, build up
supplies and prepare for just after the pullout. Then all hell breaks
loose, and you gave them everything they needed to win.
My suggestion would be to tell the iraqi government that we are going
to pull out most of our troops in the next couple of years. We will
provide support and troops would be available if needed to come back
and help stabilise things, but that should be a UN mission after Iraq
    is on it's own.
Right now we are the only thing standing between a Sunni/Shia region
wide war fought by their proxies in Iraq. We pull out and most of the
Gulf will support and arm the Sunni minority, while Iran will do the
same for the Shia, and there won't be any of the pretensions of Geneva
convention protections. It'll be what you see now with everyone being
targeted, civilian villages supporting the other side wiped out,
mosques leveled, and torture totally accepted and common on a huge
    scale.
Hussein kept that from happening with his reign of terror, we are
barely holding it in check now. We leave before the government is
strong enough to at least contain it then all hell breaks loose.
The "pull-out now" people know this, but like Vietnam they don't give
a [censored] how many die as long as we aren't there, and will always blame
someone else while totally excusing their own actions. ( yes, Robert we
    still disagree here)
Bush created this disaster both by cooking the intel, and being
totally incompetent at best so ultimately he's to blame, but just as
he's being blamed for decisions made after the war started that made it
worse, so should the pull out now folks be.
For us, historically the casualties are incredibly low so that's
sustainable indefinitely. What isn't sustainable is that while Bush is
saying "Stay the Course" they're not providing the money for
operations, training, and equipment, let alone new units of troops to
take the pressure off. They are still burying the cash in the
anti-missile [censored] and a bunch of other pet projects which don't work,
or wont do what they are supposed to, along with funneling [censored] of
cash, I know of $2000 a week payments, to the Haliburton associated
Mercs they are hiring as "private security" who are still mostly flying
under the radar, and being given support from the military on top of
    it.
It's the kid who busted open a hornet's nest, at the family picnic,
with a stick and now has no clue what to do while everyone around is

Hell, it works both ways and we have the better supply lines. And it
just may cut back on the recruits. And it may put some of the
Baathists out in the open as militia, working on a partition. It may
not be democracy, but equilibrium and barb wire is better than

Except that if we pull out I'm not sure we have the better supply
lines. Iran and Syria are a whole lot closer, and we saw what American
promises are worth 30 years ago. As soon as we pull out our politicians
will run from it and the support will disappear again no matter what
    happens, again.
To be honest, at this point I'm tempted to just arm the hell out of
the Kurds and Shia, let Iran join the party, and let them settle it in
a year with concentration camps, mass executions, and terrorising the
Sunnis. It might be less bloody and nasty in the long run as you
    pointed out.
The only reason we give a [censored] about Iran is that they might gain some
leverage in Iraq and hold the oil hostage as they are threatening to do
with their own, and we're doing what about the dependency??
The administration can't see it, or more likely don't want to. Can you
say conflict of interest? Hell even Bill O' Reilly can see this one.
Him and John Kerry, during a good interview, actually agreed that
congress has failed miserably on this one because of all the money the
oil companies spend in political races and on lobbyists.
Reduce the dependence and then, politically, none of this [censored] matters
anymore than Africa, and it's pretty obvious that NOONE gives a [censored]
enough there to actually do anything.
