  1. There's so much wonderful advice and remarkable hindsight "floating" around
the internet and Usenet, including MFW, that I get confused. I do get
    confused easily.

So, in order to help me sort out the good stuff from the [censored] out of
people's asses, I'd like to ask a favor.

Would all of you with experience dealing with a direct hit by a category 4/5
hurricane on a major city, resulting in the greatest natural disaster in the
US's history, please raise your hand?

Come on, don't be shy. I just want to identify all you experts from the
    ramble.

I'll be here all day, so, I'll wait.

    Thanks.

You remember 9/11 which was said to be a 'wake up call' - ever since then
supposedly we have been planning and drilling and preparing for a full scale
attack on a major city with a dirty bomb or other calamity. Well, consider
Katrina to be such a calamity. I am wondering why it took days for all those
carefully planned strategies to be put into place. Let me know any of you.
I'll be here all day. (of course these strategies were not designed to help
    poor black people)

This is exactly my point. You believe a terrorist attack is comparible to a
hurricane destroying and submerging a major city. More "[censored] out of people's
    asses". I'm disappointed.

AHA!! You have discovered our secret plans, Reverend Jackson. There's a

the dark suits. They are there to help you.

well its a infrastructure problem city below sea level and houses built
for that kind of climate tend to be weak here where i live i wouldnt
evacuate for a force 4-5 cylone
and the reasons for that is its higer than sea level its a conrete
    house with concrete cellar
with a roof made for carrying snowload i would though prepare with
    tapping up water
    prepare for electrical failure

Yes I see very little difference in the end people need help - medical -
food - water - anarchy has to be prevented - a crisis situation that needs
    urgent attention either way.

If you can't recognize the difference in ambient conditions between
the bombing of World Trade Center and the massive flooding and overall
damage caused by a huge hurricane, I don't know where to start in

Yes I see very little difference in the end people need help -
    medical -
food - water - anarchy has to be prevented - a crisis situation that

You are ignoring the difference in magnitude.

Not at all - I'm sure your dept of homeland security don't only prepare
    for
low level attacks - the principle is the same

Only the detonation of a thermonuclear weapon would cause the amount of
infrastructure destruction of natuaral disasters such as big hurricanes or
massive earthquakes or big ass volcanic eruptions. NOBODY can be adequately
prepared for those. Everybody does the best they can.

If you can't recognize the difference in ambient conditions between

No, actually, he said the "results" were, in some areas, "unacceptable".
Which they always will be with the 0.1% of disasters that can not be
    prepared for.

When the Big One finally quakes Los Angeles to death, the initial results of
rescue attempts will be "unacceptable". When a once in a century undersea
seismic event generates an enormous tsuinami, the results of the initial
    rescue attempts are "unacceptable".
